Bidrage med feedbackVery disappointed by this restaurant, as the review was quite strong. not much on the menu, pricy, but more than likely, eating was simply not delicious. presentation also not very refined. strong point: incredible view of the St-Lawrence river!
After four years of hearing friends warmly recommend that we try this place, we finally went there on Valentine's Day. I was surprised how easy it was to make a reservation for two at 7:30 clock given the rave reviews this restaurant in the. popular presse about the last four years, including by philippe tastes in le devoir. as soon as they enter the restaurant, was the thing that disappointed us, the relatitve dated decoration and furniture that reminded me of old miami vice episodes. in our case the definitiw was a greeting that turned us off a bit. but we decided to “go with the flow” anyway and let the wine that food and service determine how the evening would end. we were not disappointed at all! the wine list is full of carefully selected gemstones, full of biodynamic selection with a many number of weinbergs and styles. all in all, big wine list and a very good selection of wine on the glass. next to a very good Spanish cava for appetizers, we tried two flicks from France: a biodynamic pinot blanc from alsace, which was excellent, and a 2011 Chambolle-Musigny from amiot, which was good but not great. we tried the valentine tasting menu and we were wonderfully surprised by the elegance and skill of all our dishes, except that we thought was a clear miss, a small tar, the crispy, but very little offered in taste). the appetizers were simply great, a rainbow of subtle aromas in the ceviche (that was more of a carpaccio of scallops). the main dish of “herbals” was fat, tasteful and tasty: the kind of dish that could not resist to house it just to get another portion. only the perfect portion size. as Valentine's Day, the chocolate dessert was divided and was also excellent. the service staff was friendly and professional — fully justified a 22% tip in view of the careful attention they have been waiting for our table all night.
We were excited to eat in this restaurant on the basis of a recommendation of a local person, but unfortunately we were very disappointed. eating was good, but not great, but the actual problem was the service. the restaurant was not excessively busy, but our...exhaustible, while friendly at the beginning, seemed to simply lose interest in serving us. we had to ask for water, after our dessert (that came with the table d’hote), and the bill, and at the end had to rely on other server to come to our rescue. poivre noir presents itself as an upscale restaurant, the location at the river is wonderful, the decor is high-end, and the prices are on the expensive side, but management needs to check whether it would provide the kind of culinary experience that would be looking suspected. we will not return and could not recommend this restaurant in a good certain other.
Cool Aloof staff, eat at a great price for this small town. the smallest lobster dick imaginable and just ok. weine overpriced. would not go back. much better place in the city.
This summer I had the privilege of eating at the outdoor terrace and was completely pleased with my Tapas Definitely new in the presentation and the food itself. The restaurant has a marvellous Expiatory Menu where one can eat according to ones appetite for sure,...but in sharing different tasting foods. The level of quality and excellence of this Restaurant is awesome!!! Their martinis are to die for. Not cheap, but worth every penny. The service is outstanding and the Holiday Menus are becoming a must each year. Service with a smile, and Great Great Chef. A-1 in my book. Five Stars.
