Spillane's - Tralee

Came here due to the stellar reviews, but I must say we were disappointed. The food was mediocre. I guess the reviews come from the fact that this is an peninsula, where there are a lot of surfers and campers and if you live self sufficient for many days, that one restaurant in proximity can seem like a gem. The spare ribs were tough and the marinated was a diluted sweet and sour sauce from the store. The fries tasted of old fat and the burger didn’t have any of the promised special sauce on it. We came here from further away, due to the reviews but were let down.

Each time we are in the area, we visit Spillane’s with pleasure. We always had a warm and friendly welcome. Proposed dishes are simple but well executed, tasty and using very fresh ingredients. And in quantity that is appreciated after long bike rides. Ambiance during weekend is really enjoyable. Best place in the area to have a good time. Even beats Dingle.

We went back two nights in a row just because it was the only place nearby. The mussels weren't very good, we sent them back. Food is okay but wouldn't make it in a bigger city. The trifle dessert was disgusting. Otherwise, the food was good. The have a gluten free cider that was delicious. The sunset view across the street was lovely. The staff was very friendly.
