Bidrage med feedbackThis is a decent spot for sushi in one of my favorite area's to walk in midtown(Mount Pleasant). It has a great selection of different items, unfortunately like all sushi places they forget some of your items & I would love to know who actually decides on what they should leave out when people order items from a buffet menu. That's why I suggest going earlier as we arrived at 9pm & they mentioned that 945 would be the last call. Majority of the items were quite good, sashimi was very fresh & the butter fish was amazing, yes the beef sticks were a bit well done & the sesame chicken needs to be seriously improved or removed from the menu as it had lot's of bones in it & was in a puddle of what tasted like sweet & sour sauce from a jar, then topped with sesame seeds. The rolls were very well made & tasty, I think the best things from this place come from the sushi counter not from the back. Veggie rice was poor, oily, small & only had a few bean spouts with 2 small pieces of broccoli. Eggplant skewers were quite yummy, seaweed salad was good but like usual it's tiny so order 2. I noticed the staff was eating jumbo crispy chicken wings as I passed them so I order 2 & they looked nothing like the ones they had, they actual didn't taste good at all. Sorta funny how the employees get the custom made stuff. I would go back but wouldn't go any later than 830pm as they will start closing shop & not bring you the items you have ordered. Very clean place & our servers were friendly.
Myself and a few friends decided to get together and try out Hokkaido. All You Can Eat sushi is a bit difficult, since my SO doesn't eat fish, so there needs to be enough other things on the menu for him while we eat the sushi part. Hokkaido definitely checked the box on that, including things like tempura mushrooms, french fries and curries. The food was good, I loved sashimi beef and fried scallops. Their menu also includes deep fried milk. I don't know how they make it, but it was tasty. They also have all you can drink pop for an extra $1.00.My main issue was we would order multiples of things and they wouldn't always provide it. For example, we would order 4 chicken curries (there were 5 of us there, so this wasn't an insane request) and they would give us 2, both served on the same plate. Also, despite there only being customers at 2 other tables, they could be slow picking up order sheets and we had to go up and get the sheets ourselves. Overall, I will be back, just not with 5 people. Their menu selection definitely earns a return, the rest will hopefully iron out with less people there.
My wife and I do take out from this restaurant once a week, and go to the AYCE on occasion. Its not high end, but very reasonably priced and the staff is quite friendly.
Hokkaido turned out to be only mediocre as an all you can eat restaurant. The servers were great. They literally ran to customers, brought out plates quickly, filled water glasses often and cleared the table diligently. The sushi chefs were very good. Sushi was tasty, fresh and very creatively plated. The food from the kitchen was disappointing. Chicken was gristly. Beef had no taste. Ribs were all fat. More care needs to be taken with kitchen fare in order for this to be a decent all you can eat Japanese restaurant.
The evening weekday all you can eat is a great value at $18.99 for adults. Lots of variety of food to choose from. The place is never crowded so plenty of seats and the food comes quickly. Try it if you haven't already. They also offer lunch specials for $6.99.
