Bidrage med feedbackI first visited this restaurant with my uncle 10 years ago. Since then, I have tried several items on the menu, but I always find myself returning to the Pelmeni and cheese blintzes, both of which are excellent. I love dining at this restaurant because the food is consistently delicious and reminds me of many happy family meals.
Had lunch at this cozy restaurant in Bloor West Village. The European cuisine was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable.
I dined at Amber earlier this week while visiting friends in Toronto. Having moved to Montreal 20 years ago, it's been difficult to find a place that serves a delicious Polish/Ukrainian style meal. I'm happy to say that I finally had the chance to eat at this restaurant in Bloor West Village after passing by it countless times. I'm so glad I did! The potato cooked with mushrooms and sauerkraut reminded me of my grandmother's cooking, it was just as good if not better. The Siberian lamb was a unique and tasty dish, and every plate that was served looked amazing. The portions were generous and the food was very fresh. The restaurant itself is a charming, family-run establishment with original decor and excellent service. They offer a nice selection of Polish and Eastern European beers as well. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope that others will enjoy the food as much as I did.
Had the sauerkraut/mushroom and bacon pierogies, and the mushroom and onion stuffed schnitzel. Both very tasty! Only downside of my experience at Amber was the pricing... quite expensive for simple European comfort food.
The Amber Restaurant is somewhat preserved in amber. The first time I visited was thirty years ago and I haven 't been back as often as I should. My return visit was very pleasant indeed. I had the baked onion soup and the Amber Chicken which...comes with a nice tomato-based sauce and with sprinkled on paprika and mashed potatoes on the side. Very tasty. Service was slightly distracted but I think this was on purpose. They were not busy (I was eating before 6:00 P.M. and didn 't want to seem pushy. Which is refreshing. They did have a television, but it was just showing pictures of their food and advertisements for some sort of special water. They could probably do without it. Prices have gone up a bunch over the years, but this is probably because they are focused on good quality ingredients. It shows in the food.
