Golden Wok Restaurant - Thunder Bay

OK so we used TripAdvisor to find a good restaurant for takeout Chinese food and this on erated 4.5 out of 5. Bingo! There are at least three really good restaurants in T Bay we know well but with Labour's Day on etc. we decided on this one. Order for 15 adults placed at 4:30PM and ready at 6:40PM yes took WAY TOO long. If you're open on Labour Day people will want to avail themselves of your services, so would suggest better prep. Oh, the food. Right. Bonbons were some of the best we have ever had, but a few were under cooked. Chicken balls were meaty. The rest of the food was the worst Chinese I have ever eaten anywhere. Let's start with the simple stuff: mushrooms fried rice was over wet, clumpy and tasteless. Chow mein overcooked, soggy and tasteless. Honey garlic spareribs were in a bland slightly garlicky brown sauce like gravy which actually reminded me more of crappier Shang hai, PRC food. Egg rolls were paste filled and only partly. Veggie spring rolls were big and paste filled laced with turmeric wut? Yes, way weird but edible. I can't speak for the other dishes, but these ones mentioned are staples and need to be spot on awesome. There are definitely much, much better Chinese food restaurants in T Bay as I mentioned. Beware of TripAdvisor ratings they can mislead.

I ordered the beef and shrimp noodle bowl, the spring rolls were tasty, meet ok noodles dry however after I ate my spring rolls I poured the spring rolls sauce over the noodles and meet which made it better.....oh and some sriracha sauce. But over all for the quality of the food I found it very over-priced. I ordered through DoorDash and because it was the first time, the delivery fee was waived so with 2 noodle bowls and the tip and tax it was $61.25. I find that really excessive. I understand that Thunder Bay is so far away and everything so prices are hiked a bit but come on it's a few noodles a little bit of meat and a spring rolls. I find it outrageous.

Excellent! We ordered delivery, dinner for 2 with a couple of other items and everything was fresh and delicious. I will defiantly order again. Chicken balls are very large and meaty!

Always skeptical about people’s opinion of Chinese Food as I have been to many that people have given 5 stars. Well believe me when I say, this food was full of flavor and lots of it. This is a must stop place if you’re ever in Thunder Bay.

Often hit the GW with the gang from work. Chicken Pad Thai is amazing. Decided to shake it up once and ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan. I was pretty disappointed. Back to my Pad Thai and I am never disappointed. Its in an older building with some creaks and cracks but food is good, service is good and prices are good.
