Drouin Family Hotel - Tarago

The Drouin Family Hotel is housed in a historic building, and the food is absolutely fantastic. I typically don't love pub fare, but I have to say that the food at Drouin Family Hotel is some of the best I've ever had at a hotel. I ordered the pork ribs and they were enormous. The price was well worth it for the amount of food you receive. The meat practically fell off the bone and the ribs had a delicious spicy and smoky flavor. The coleslaw was a perfect accompaniment and the chips were cooked to perfection - crispy and not overly salted.

Yes, it is a pub indeed! You can expect classic pub food here without a doubt. The chicken Parmigiana was decent (opted for the Texan version, but should have stuck with the traditional option - why mess with a classic, right?). Have you ever had a Parmigiana and thought to yourself, "This is good, but it could use some slow-cooked beef brisket..."? The staff were friendly and there was a great local atmosphere. They didn't have any pale ales on tap, so we settled for schooners of Carlton Draught like the locals. Nothing wrong with that! As we were finishing up (one of the last groups in the restaurant), the Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen started playing some awesome tunes. It was a nice way to end our meal at the Fammo pub.

The staff at this restaurant are very friendly and welcoming, the food is fantastic with generous portions, and it's great value for money. It's definitely worth making the drive down from Melbourne.

Great family hotel. Kids love the playground with jumping castles and interactive games. The food is great value for money and always quick and fresh no matter how busy it is. Highly recommend. Especially if you have kids.
