Mcmenamins - Tacoma

I had the impression from OpenTable that this restaurant was fully booked, but when we arrived there were plenty of empty tables. I would suggest showing up even if you can't get a reservation. The food was a bit pricey but delicious. We ordered some tater tots and a pizza, as well as a few beers and cocktails. Even if the restaurant is busy, there are three other bars in the same building that also serve food, so don't hesitate to just show up!

The server didn't want to work that night. We waited 10 minutes for him to greet us. Then he finally took our drink order. After our drinks arrived he took our dinner order. The food was ok, but not amazing. The restaurant was very dark and the candles on the table weren't lit, so it was hard to see. I really love Mcmennamins but was very disappointed.

I understand that it was New Year's Eve and therefore a busy night, but New Year's Eve happens every year on the same day, so it shouldn't have been a surprise. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and the service was extremely slow. They were not able to handle the large number of customers efficiently.

We have always been fond of this restaurant, but I believe that last night's experience will be my final visit. The service was incredibly slow, the food was subpar, and the prices were unreasonably high. It was a major letdown. Additionally, they even got our drink order wrong.

We're sat in the back corner next to a large loud party. The waiter was so focused on them that our experience suffered. We could also barely converse without yelling; it wasn't that the resultant was full either, there were seats else where. After finally ordering 45 minutes after we sat, he came back 15 minutes later to ask if we were just going to drink water after we put in drink orders. After finally getting our drinks he came back to our table and asked if we were having desert when we hadn't even received our meal yet. They didn't have the appetizer we ordered (which we found out after ordering and the waiter coming back to tell us). The food itself was ok, but nothing special for the price. It's a shame because the location is awesome and it could be so much more if the service wasn't horrendous. (Also, it wasn't just the restaurant. We stopped at Docs bar for a drink before our meal and eventually gave up on getting a drink because there was no bartender at the bar. We went to the Old Hangout after dinner and I had to go to the bar to order drinks because no one waited on us and the bartender told us to sit down and order from the waitress). I had high hopes for the experience and was let down at every turn, do better.
