On our way to visit a friend in Surrey Hills, we stumbled upon a charming pizza bar called Big Mumma's Pizza. Located in the heart of this Moroccan-influenced suburb, we were excited to try their unique blend of pizza and Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant had a simple and unassuming look both inside and out, but the customer service was warm and friendly. We ordered two vegetarian pizzas and two regular pizzas: the Aussie (tomato, cheese, meat, egg) in a large size for $12.90, which we customized by swapping the meat for mushrooms to make it vegetarian. The Australian pizza with mushrooms was delicious. The vegetarian pizza (tomatoes, cheese, mushroom, capsicum, olives) in a large size for $12.90 was pretty standard in taste, nothing particularly special. The BBQ chicken pizza (tomato, cheese, mushroom, capsicum, bbq sauce, chicken) in a large size for $14.90 had a overly sweet BBQ sauce that overwhelmed the other flavors. The Big Mumma's pizza (tomato, cheese, meat, mushroom, capsicum, olives, hot salami, anchovies, pineapple) in a large size for $14.90 was generously topped with a variety of proteins and vegetables, creating a rich and satisfying taste. We especially enjoyed their signature pizza, highly recommended! All the pizzas were beautifully made, not greasy, and overall above average in taste. Price: 3.0 Flavor: 3.0 Service: 3.5 Pros: Aussie and Big Mumma's pizzas were delicious Cons: No delivery, BBQ chicken was too sweet.
The decor of the restaurant was gloomy and a bit messy, with food scraps visible under the counter as I waited for my order. I decided to try the Marinara pizza, which had a few medium-sized shrimp on it, making me think it was meant to be a seafood option. The pizza was small, with only four small slices, and priced at $10.90, which I considered to be quite expensive for a basic option. Overall, I wouldn't make this restaurant a regular stop.
Wonderful aromas, great basic and non-fat. pizza from this place not only tastes good. we recommend and will continue to support our local business. Thank you.
Big Mummas is purely a takeaway place. There were some seats arranged in the front, but they are just for waiting patrons – you wouldn’t want to eat there. That said, they serve up a very nice pizza. Prices were not the cheapest, but not...the most expensive either and were still pretty good value for money. Watching as my pizza was made, they certainly didn’t skimp on the toppings, literally throwing handfuls onto the pizza. Most importantly the pizza was well cooked and very tasty. If you in the area, Big Mummas is a good option for a takeaway pizza. They do all the standards, plus some Moroccan varieties as well if you want something a little different.
