Bidrage med feedbackCOLOMBIA Dispatch from Sunnyside, Queens: I recently tried a quick Colombian-style hot dog from Los Verdes in Sunnyside. Although this chain is well-known in southern Florida, it only has one location in New York City. In addition to hot dogs, they also offer Colombian favorites like arepas, Venezuelan classics such as patacón sandwiches and cachapas. The hot dog I tried had mozzarella cheese, bacon, smashed potato chips, and a quail egg. It was very satisfying and definitely exceeded my expectations compared to the famous NYC hot dogs. Visit Los Verdes at 46-26 Greenpoint Avenue, Sunnyside, Queens for this delicious treat. More information available on our website.
My partner couldn't resist ordering the dedito de guayaba de queso, a fried rolled pastry filled with cheese and guava jam. They also chose the regular hot dog, which is anything but ordinary. The hot dog is topped with mozzarella, bacon bits, crushed potato chip pieces, a quail egg, pink pineapple, and Los Verdes sauce on a large bun. Coleslaw accompanied this dish and they emptied their plate, giving it a thumbs up. I decided to have coffee instead of soda, tropical juices, or milkshakes. It was difficult to decide what to order, but I ultimately chose the choriperro because I like chorizo. The choriperro includes chorizo in addition to the regular hot dog toppings, and I enjoyed it. Other options such as filled arepas, filled patacones, and maicitos were also considered. While hamburgers sounded appealing, they didn't seem Colombian enough. Hot dogs have a strong tradition, so that's what we went with in the end.
