Black Forest Inn - Stanhope

Food is excellent. Very comfortable old world atmosphere. Service is great. Only downer... pay with plastic and 5% is added to the bill. It'd be respectful if this were told to a patron before bill presentation.

The Black Forest Inn catered our wedding of 120 people at an offsite location (Chelsea Sun Inn) on July 22, 2023. We contacted the owner (Barbara) 18 months prior to the wedding. Barbara ’s upfront planning and attention to detail made the wedding a huge success. They handled all aspects of food, servers and bartenders. The staff was professional and on top of everything. The day of the wedding was amazing Barbara’s crew needed very little direction even helped out on aspects of the wedding that had nothing to do with catering. The food was outstanding and everyone still raves about it. We really appreciate everything the Black Forest Inn did to make our day so special. We highly recommend them for any catering jobs and could not have imagined our day without them. We have also visited the Restaurant on several occasions and have never been disappointed.

Wunderbar! I sincerely cannot speak highly enough about my experience having Black Forest Inn cater my wedding reception. From the very first time I spoke with Barbara, I knew this was going to be a perfect fit. We truly felt like part of the family! Every little detail and consideration was attended to by Barbara, who went FAR above and beyond to ensure that we had more than just food – we had a full experience! Our event was German Fest themed, and everything was just perfect. From the incredible authentic food (which we sampled at the restaurant many times , to the table settings, and the staff dressed in their authentic Dirndls, we could not have asked for more (because Barbara made sure that every detail was covered! All of our guests are still raving about the food, and it really made us feel closer to our German family members who could not attend. Every step and aspect of working with the team at Black Forest Inn was just phenomenal. We wholeheartedly recommend them for catering (and the restaurant in general , we are forever grateful for how they made our event absolutely perfect.

We visited tonight in celebration of my husband's birthday This was our second time dining here and although the experience was good it wasn't as great as the first time. Our waiter, Matthieu, was attentive though not overbearing as he was at times busy with other patrons. He was assisted by, Barbara, who was a pleasure and more than helpful. My meal, the seafood combination, could have used more flavor, but the fish was cooked tenderly. The potato leek soup was so good that nearly everyone enjoyed a bowl- including our 1 year old daughter. The most pleasing part of the meal was certainly the black forest birthday cake. It was as though the entire dining room erupted into song it was such a joy! The crust at the bottom and the toasted almonds slivers provided a nice balance along with the lightly sweetened cream frosting that complemented the rich layers of chocolate cake. Altogether it was a fine dinner and I feel money well spent. Thank you to the younger gentleman staff who took our picture whose name I do not know. Thank you, Black Forest Inn!

Very enjoyable evening where everyone found something to suit their palate, and I got OYSTERS on the half-shell, my all-time favorite dish.
