Bidrage med feedbackThe museum, gallery, and archives are housed in a beautiful landmark building inspired by historic buildings. The Rooms currently has an exhibition on WWI and Newfoundland's participation. The presentation is very well done, especially the stirring HD video reenactments integrated with historic photos and artifacts. The natural history gallery has one of the world's oldest fossils. The art exhibition of Inuit art showed me a new perspective on the changing artistic practices in Northern communities (it's not all soapstone). The building itself offers the best view of St. John's harbour to be found anywhere in the city, and you can enjoy it from the cafe on the fourth floor. Highly recommended facility, more polished and larger than one would normally find in a city this size.
I love this place so much that a I visited twice in one week! The first time, my husband and I focused on the WWI exhibit as his uncle who was from NFLD died for that cause. We were able to find his records etc. at the archives office, they were very helpful. We also had lunch there and were blown away by the view! Funny, I had not been much impressed when I first saw the exterior of the The Rooms as we were driving into town, 'What 's that building? ' But once I visited, I was so impressed by this place, the views from the inside are so spectacular! it 's. worth a visit for that alone. We were also able to visit the exhibit on the people of Newfoundland, the Cod industry, etc., all very very interesting and well put together! Thank you...
The Rooms is an amazing place. I could've spent three full days there. The architecture is exquisite. The museum displays are pleasing to the eye and user-friendly with their informative touch screens. The café and gift shop are top notch!
Very nice. Plan on more than one visit if you like to read everything. Nice cafe, high end, you're not going to get a $2 burger. Just educate yourself if gluten is an issue. There are options. Would go again next time visiting here.
What a delightful place, fascinating local items from geology to the Titanic. We had limited time, but still really enjoyed our visit. Lovely restaurant and the architecture external and internal, is quite amazing. Definitely recommend a visit.
