Bidrage med feedbackWell, I don’t think it’s a good choice for dinning out as family gatherings. The price is pretty unreasonable high. Their side-dish rice gonna charge you extra 5 money. For me it’s seems like they wanna make as much money as possible from each order. It is a stupid action, as a restaurant, you earn your profit from good quality food ,nice service, and return customers not just rap each customer wallet for sigle order.
I have been going to the Blue Mermaid occasionally now for over 40 years and sadly last night will be my last visit, as will my one other of my guests. Place was packed…out of their control and it is Christmas. Dinning room is small so when it’s full it’s very noisy. Piano music is lovely but adds to the noise level. Three cocktails, 3 appetizers, a bottle of wine (they were supposedly out of the $65 bottle so I had to bump up to the $95). One of my guests ordered the baked potato (an addition $6.50). When she was served her meal no baked potato. Waiter went back to kitchen then reappeared saying they had no baked potatoes…..tell me what fine dining restaurant would not have a baked potato on hand? Twenty minutes later we saw a dinner plate come out with a baked potato on it. Waiter fibbed but couldn’t own up to their error. Our tenderloins were less than satisfactory. I can get the same steak at any restaurant for a lesser cost. A couple of carrots, couple spears of asparagus and two slices of a potato. Two desserts. Bill came to over $500 for 3 people, tip on top of that. I like value for my money and I just don’t feel that I received that last night. What a disappointment for a special occasion. But I did enjoy my guests company.
We were hoping to recreate past experiences at The Blue Mermaid with dear friends: The Blue Mermaid was amazing. Staff were polite, knowledgeable and attentive, and the setting was elegant. The highlight was the straight forward, high quality food that wasn’t hidden behind a load of pomp and sauce. The food, matched with the experience, is definitely worth the asking price. Sadly, our experience, did not match our past memories. The one highlight was the Caesar Salad for two, prepared tableside. Lowlights, as compared to previous dining at the The Blue Mermaid, no one offered to hang up our winter coats, the relish tray was missing the flakes of salmon in the rice, with our main entrees potatoes were substituted with instant Minute Rice , portions were smaller, the quality of the food had dropped, and the coup de grace was one bill being presented to our party of 4 as, a fait a complit, never being asked if we were paying as couples and/or individuals. When we enquired about the bill, we were told that it was insulting to ask how the bill was to be presented. An extremely high price to pay for what turned out to be a disappointing dining experience at The Blue Mermaid. We will not be returning!
Everything was just excellent. Unlike a lot of fine restaurants, you won't leave hungry.
We had an overnight in St. Catharines and my wife remembered this restaurant from the past. It is not very big with about 50 seats. I started with a nice Pino Grigio to go with our garlic bread and the relish tray with pickle spears, black olives and seasoned cold rice.As my main course I decided to go for the special, chain pickerel (a pike like fish). It was pan seared, nicely seasoned and very good. It came with carrots, asparagus and wonderful roasted potatoes. A very good cappuccino (that passed the spoon test) was a good finish of this wonderful meal.It is not an inexpensive restaurant, but is really worth a visit.
