Awesome little secret in Springdale. Food was very good and pretty. Loved the black beans. Margaritas looked really good. Will have one next time. Felt like I was eating at the beach somewhere the way it was decorated. Will go back.
Wow!!! The BEST GUMBO and SEAFOOD SOUP EVER!! And I’ve eaten at places all around the world so when I said it was BOMB, believe me!! We had crab legs, oysters with the works, spicy salsa and what I mentioned above. All were great!!
Do yourself a favor and come here! Don't let the lack of reviews turn you off of this amazing food! VEB is a counter service restaurant, meaning you'll come up to the counter to order and they'll hand you a pager that will beep at you when your order is ready. Our party of four had the cazuela de mariscos, bang bang shrimp tacos (not pictured , ceviche, and cocktail. The quality of the food is outstanding for the price you're paying. To start, the salsa that they have for your usual chips and salsa is fantastic. It's not your typical tomato salsa that's kind of weak in flavor. It's made primarily out of chilis and is so full of flavor compared to many places in the area. Smoky and just a bit vegetal, the salsa is clearly made from scratch, packing some serious heat. I've eaten the Carolina Reaper. This salsa makes me sweat. It's spicy enough for me! So it's not for the faint of heart. Personally, I'd leave out the usual salsa for those who don't do as much spice, but it's really great! The bang bang tacos were the best shrimp tacos in the entirety of Northwest Arkansas. Better than Flying Fish Bonefish Grill etc. Whoever they are, VEB has them beat. If you're not sure what to get, the seafood tacos are great! The cazuela de mariscos was my own meal. Inside it, there was a crab leg, a good sized prawn, two large shrimp, multiple tiny shrimp, clam meat, mussels, octopus, and a TON of bacon. It was absolutely rich and briney, with a lot of variance in terms of flavor, even with how much was going on in there. It wasn't terribly spicy, but seasoned juuuuuust right. One word of warning: it comes out bubbling hot. And of course, with how hot it is, be careful with broken shells that broke due to the shock of heat. The ceviche and cocktail is an amazing value for the cost. The ceviche was made with fresh tilapia and shrimp, with a good serving of lime juice, onion, avocado, tomato, and cilantro. Everything was tender and flavorful, which can be a little hard to find, given how acidic some ceviche can get around these parts! The cocktail was made with a ketchup base, with PLENTY of shrimp and avocado. Standard, but done so well. Both could've done with a bit of spice, but that can easily be changed with a bit of the salsa. As you can see by the pictures, they're both large, milkshake glass sized servings. You won't go hungry with it! Suffice to say, we'll be coming back here as it's easily one of the best seafood places in the area! AND the serving size is more than generous, which is a huge plus. As an aside, the table also has practically every variety of salsa and hot sauce at the table bar San Miguel and Sriracha (why would you want it though? . My one complaint? The place could use some better lighting. It would be nice to have a little warm lighting to really make the food more appealing than it already is and to improve the atmosphere which could use it based on the decor and paint. Coming in on a rainy day, everything seemed a little less colorful and it was just a little dark in the restaurant. Don't let the pictures fool you: I'm using the Pixel's Night Mode to get better lighting. I'd probably blame the paint job, overall. On a sunny day, I'm sure the place feels a little better to be in. Nitpick, I know. Review update 11 17 18. I tried the fried fish basket. Totally lackluster. If you come here, I'd recommend everything else wholeheartedly. The fried fish is a huge disappointment. It's woefully unseasoned (maybe it didn't have anything at all and has terrible adhesion to the fish itself. The fries are okay at best as they were pretty soggy. The hush puppies were tiny, but probably the best part of the basket. The quality of the fish was good, at least. But overall? Don't get anything fried! On my return trip, I had the oyster cocktail, which was fantastic! Huge oysters, good cocktail sauce, tasty avocado... It was missing the garnish from the prior visit, strangely. The mortar of salsa wasn't around but the salsa was still plenty tasty, if only more processed.
One of the best place in town.
