Hideaway Cafe - Spirit Lake

This place has really turned it around. The food is great with the new chef and the recent kitchen updates. Will go back when the gate entrance is open. The bartender as the waitress was not great. We were forgotten about while she played on her phone and the stink of cigarette smoke kept coming in the door. She also wasn't really friendly enough to direct us how to get to the restaurant side.

I went here with my family, all of whom have slightly different tastes, and everyone found something excellent for lunch. The service was fast and, above all, friendly. I can't wait to go back. The Hideway Cafe has my highest recommendation.

Traveling thru this little town we stopped at the local gas station to ask where the best place to eat was. Told it was The Hideaway. It took a little bit to find it since it's tucked back between a couple of bars. But it was well worth the search. They have a great patio and even let our dog hang out there with us. The cook took our order, then a couple of different gals asked if we needed anything. They brought water for the pup. That scores points in my book. The food was plentiful and VERY GOOD!!! I had the Cajun Chicken Fettuccine, YUM !!! Loaded with chicken and veggies. The sauce was wonderful. My husband had a burger and said it was cooked perfectly. Homemade fries. Fresh salad with homemade dressing. Excellent place to stop for lunch or dinner. Don't pass it by if you are in this area!!

Went for breakfast over the weekend. Have not been there since the ownership change. Wow...just sad! The place was dirty, hadn't been vacuumed in awhile, crumbs on the chairs and tables, greasy/dusty fixtures. The food was not good. It used to be, but no longer. Hash browns were gummy and just repulsive. Chicken fried steak was the frozen, in the deep fryer type. Eggs were so overcooked, you needed a knife to get thru the yolk. No staff, only a cook, so service was exceptionally slow. Really upsetting. We try to support local merchants, however, this place won't be on the future list. YUK....
