Bidrage med feedbackWe’ve ordered from here before, I’ve never been wowed by the food in general, however I do love the dragon rolls. Unfortunately our most recent order lacked taste and my husband said the soba noddles and meat was very low quality (which I have to agree with). I’ve also noticed similar comments below and am wondering whether the source of the ingredients have changed. I’ve always found the service abrupt and a little forgetful but 1-1 the lady who runs it is friendly and we like to support local businesses. However after todays meal and how expensive the food is here versus similar restaurants I think it may be the last time we visit. Such a shame as there aren’t many Japanese places around here and it’s local, but equally for the expense it does need to consistently deliver a certain standard of food and the restaurant itself could do with a lick of paint updating.
I 've been to achimi several times in the past and have recommended this restaurant to so many people. However I will NEVER return here after the treatment I received during my last visit. We ordered sushi, tempura and octopus balls all were lovely. But the 'soba noodles ' we ordered as a main were utterly disgusting. They were made from the cheapest looking noodles possible and seemed to be drenched in an odd tasting sweet and sour sauce which is not mentioned on the menu also I 've had the noodles here before and loved them so obviously they are now cutting corners. I didnt eat the noodles and the waitress asked if I wanted something else so I asked for the prawn fried rice a safe bet I thought. The prawns came on the side of the rice and were drowning in a sweet teriyaki sauce, which I thought was strange but the taste was OK. However the rice was SO salty that it was inedible. And I 'm the kind of person to add salt to everything ! I did not eat the rice and had eaten only one of the weird prawns. When the waitress came with our bill we were charged for both the inedible noodles and inedible rice. My partner asked if we could have them removed as they were not to our liking and the waitress told us that they would remove the noodles but not the rice. Because the rice was our replacement dish for the one we didn 't like, even though it was also inedible. When we asked to instead remove the service charge in that case she disappeared to go and ask. The head chef then came to our table to personally shout at me like a toddler throwing a tantrum and I had to ask him to please stop shouting at me. He then said to me that I should of not eaten the noodles which I didnt and then I should of asked for something else which I did! . When I said I 'd been here before and enjoyed the food he got extremely angry and shouted that he 's been there 15 years and the food has never changed. He also said that it 's impossible to make food to suit everyone 's taste. I really don 't know what to say but I could make better food at home. In the end they didn 't charge us for the noodles and removed the service charge but I don 't understand why we paid for the rice or why the chef had to come and shout at me. We happily paid for the food we ate and enjoyed, but after such treatment I will never go back. Don 't waste your money here unless you want to be shouted at by a mouthy rude man child and then overcharged for the privilege.
I have eaten here many times and really enjoyed it, the service has also been great. So I decided to return and how different things are. I ordered a dish which had vegetables as a side dish, as I have an intolerance to some of these I asked the waitress if they could be swapped out for rice, she looked at me with a blank and confused look and said no , I was shocked, she said no we can 't do that . I suggested she go into the kitchen and speak to someone who could make the decision and come back to me. They finally agreed. By this point I was already annoyed at the lack of flexibility. Anyway food was pretty good. I ask to the pay the bill and she bring over the cash machine so I could tap my card. After paying I realise they have automatically charged me service charge, as I did not receive the paper receipt I didn 't have the change to question it. Once paid the lady tell me we do not normally swap out items, there is a £2 charge for the charge I was like so if someone has an allergy you won 't help. She said they would be willing to remove it from the plate but anything additional needs to be paid for. Now here is the issue...in the current climate eating out is a real luxury for many people and small businesses really need to appreciate every bit of custom they get, I understand that they also have increased costs but it must be a balance. to switch vegetables for rice is probably a better result for the business, I can 't see rice costing much more and it was never about the £2, it could be 2p, it 's the principle and inflexibility of this restaurant. it has seriously put me off going back after so many great visits.
We visited on a Thursday evening there were a few tables in but it wasn’t overly busy. We ordered two of the special plates of sushi and some gyoza which were all excellent. I regretted not ordering soft shell crab and they brought out four pieces that were incredible
Fabulous restaurant, the food was delicious and fresh with so much choice, the service is excellent with friendly staff. We would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!
