Bidrage med feedbackBeautiful fish on the special menu, but the advertised Asian salad was no more than a garnitur. not at all similar to an Asian salate. they also need a child menu. my 10 years old had to order an adult meal. if he could not finish it, they wouldn't let us take it away with us, such a great waste.
Besides the service and eating it is great. river quay fish is in one of the best stalls in brisbane in southbank view over the river and the city. the layout has a beautiful flow from inside to outside and catches beautiful brise from the flow at warm brisbane evenings. it was really pleasant to just sit there and watch the people walk by. unfortunately the food and service do not promise the locality. we were there on a quiet Sunday evening with the restaurant never more than half full, no more 20 diners total. after we were greeted and sitting we were left alone. after 10 minutes intamination we asked if the restaurant has provided table service or should we go into the bar to order drinks? a pretty strong meaning I thought. we were 1 minute away from going out (19 minutes, when a waitress asked if we wanted to order something and seemed really surprised that we were in the restaurant for eating and drinking. we started with a common fish taco plate that was quite good, but needed a better sauce. up with a deconstructed garn cocktail (prawns overcooked and twice boiled otopus that had lost any texture, but was ok. we shared a moreton bay bug main that was generous in size and the bugs were perfectly cooked. the accompanying sweet chili sauce was completely wrong for the dish, as the chewing spirals of green papaya salad (what is wrong with the conventional crushed green papaya I ask? . the butter pan drizzles that the beetles were cooked happy, delivered a perfect sose for the dish. with 2 glasses wein was everyone the bill $150, so not ridiculously expensive, but not good price-performance ratio. hopefully, the cook and the waiting staff will lift their game so that river quay fish lives in its environment.
We have booked online and received a confirmation, but unfortunately at the arrival there was no booking for us. I was told I didn't book, but if I showed the confirmation on my phone, a table was found! no apology, but what is said, the location was great, eating was ok (except the fish of the day in beerbatter was quite boiled and gummy) and everything was very salted but my flat head was nicely cooked. our waitress was pleasant and apologised when we were accused of something we had ordered, but it was said that she had run out. everything in all it was good.
Beautiful place next to the brisbane river. not a large menu, but interesting. the fishtacos are delicious, but the Tempura flat tip was not just a temporur battery. the staff was very attractive and very efficient. cold water is preferably warm to listen to a hot day.
It is a great location and outlook and while I am a fan of quick service, I was surprised when four meals were delivered to the table within five minutes of ordering including tempura and crumbed fish, octopus and bugs, suggesting that the food had been pre-cooked and simply re-heated or finished off. I get this technique is used in restaurants to ensure quick service but the bugs in particular were overcooked and starting to disintegrate. Seafood takes so little time to cook anyway, not sure why it wouldn't just be cooked to order and ensure fresh and appetising meals.
