Big John's Shirley - Solihull

I bought this evening portions of fish and curry sauces and it cost me over the fish tasted fishy and with hardly a teig! chips were hard and nobody enjoyed it. i stick with zebs next time....you are cheaper and have best quality fish and chips . never again too big johns!

I am regular customer, never any problems with the personal or eating have everything perfect in this business nothing wrong one of the best places in shirley, and prices are cheap too, very recommended keeping it on youngs do not think about negative.

Big John's quality of food has declined. The chips were stale, the fish was poor quality, and the doner meat was dried out. This will be the last time my family visits Big John's, as there is nothing else positive to say about our experience.

After finishing work late following my graduation, I decided to go to Great John's restaurant since all other options were closed. Upon arrival, I noticed that there were a lot of people gathered at the take-out area without practicing social distancing or wearing masks. I waited in line, thinking I was the first one there, only to realize that the people ahead of me had been waiting for at least 15 minutes, including a delivery driver.

I was driving past with a friend, noticed the shop had reopened after some time in lockdown darkness and decided to give it a try as the one in Birmingham is usually excellent value. The staff member behind the counter wore a mask but no...gloves, which sent rather a mixed message (he said he'd only just started working there, and put gloves on following a brief conversation with his manager. He'd already reached into the fridge to get two cold drinks out (there was no coffee available), and I refused to accept those as he had clearly touched the area around the ringpull with his bare hands. His manager (who was wearing gloves) then brought an unopened tray of cans through, and handed two over. Food in hand, and rather wearied by having to teach restaurant staff basic hygiene rules, I returned to my car. Unfortunately, the Big John experience did not improve: the chicken coating tasted odd, and my friend gave up on hers after a few bites; the chips were bitter, as though old or incorrect oil had been used, so neither of us bothered with those. We had the cold drinks and vowed never to visit that particular outlet ever again.
