Chateau de Valere - Sion

Due to budget reduction the restaurant here at 'Château de Valère' (Valere basilica) became a trendy cafeteria. The exquisite space, with tailored furniture, red velvet cushions, is a very comfortable canopy 'capsule' space. Menu includes finger food, quiche, souri of the day and even tartar steak. Do not miss the exquisite chocolate mousses (homemade). A charming destination, with terrace. Lovers beware: you might make the decisive move there!

So many different vantage points to photograph this attraction. I recommend exploring each one of them.

ENAfter walking up we had something to eat. The food is local and the quality is very nice. I certainly recommend to try the apricot juice which is certainly the best I ever drink in my life. The tartar is nice and the assiette valaisanne is very authentic. The problem came when they did a mistake taking the order and delivering something more mentioning is was include with tartar (a salad). At the end they try to charge it. We could not let that happen and the manager came saying that we eat it and should pay it but that she was nice enough to waive it. She behave quite aggressively and act as we did a mistake. This ruined the atmosphere enough that they lost 2 star and went from very good to average.FRRien de tel qu'un petit encas après la grimpette (ou les grimpettes). Les produits servis son d'excellente qualité. je recommande tous spécialement le jus d'abricot. Le tartar et pas mal et l'assiette valaisanne très bonne. Ça se gâte quand on a affaire à la responsable.Après nous avoir facturé une salade soi-disant comprise avec le tartare, la responsable s’est montrée quelque peu agressive et nous a traiter comme fautif (genre " vous l'avez manger mais bon je vais l'enlever"). Cette altercation a suffisamment pourri l'ambiance pour que deux étoiles partent laissant une évaluation "moyenne".

First the view. Outstanding. The best place for your vacation kids picture with a snowy background. You'll frame it and give to grandma. Perfect gift.Then you have the museum. High quality, very interesting, from the cavemen to modern Valais. With games for little ones, kids and teens. Worth the trip. The greatest museum in the world of Valais. Ever.Plenty of walls around the castle too. I have such respect for those wall builders.And then the little restaurant. A great tiny restaurant. They make the food themseves with local products. Not imported from Mexico or else. Just great Valaisan food. For a very reasonable price.And the people. I love the people there! Nice and friendly. Just go and visit!

Assuming this is the restaurant up in the fortified church: the food was very good, tasty, smelled great, and well arranged. The service was a little slow but friendly enough. The tables outside fill up quick, so be prepared for a little wait if you are desperate to sit outside (and on a nice day outside with the views is where you want to be).
