Life has returned to the old gas station at the Ottendorfer Straße in Putzkau. René Schöne took over the bistro together with his wife Karla. The building had been empty since the beginning of the year. Guests can now look forward to breakfast and lunch in the ambience of a closed petrol station. In the morning, sandwiches and sausages are sold. At noon there are classics like Currywurst or Schnitzel, which always go well, two lunches on the map. Czech specialities also come to the plate. This has a simple reason: Karla Schöne comes from our southern neighboring country. The concept comes up. Since the opening of the new tenant, there are numerous regular guests. Spontaneous Edecision René Schöne is new in the gastronomy business. After many stations he arrived in this industry. The man from Bretnig started after school as a boilerguard. After the German reunification, he worked for nearly 20 years on construction. He then worked for four years with a domestic service company. Then it went to the media distribution of Kamenz. From there to the hospitality industry, a relatively spontaneous decision was taken. René Schöne and his wife have worked as a holiday representative in another snack. They discovered how much fun the work can do there. When the two learned that a new operator is being searched for the old gas station in Putzkau, they did not consider long and signed the lease agreement. If possible, the bistro should also be the end station before retirement, René Schöne hopes. More strenuous than he thought, and his wife began the renovation work in April. The kitchen has completely refurbished them, repainted the guest room. A gas connection was laid. René and Karla Schöne are now throwing the shop to two. While in the kitchen, he takes care of the guests. This is sometimes more exhausting than thought. In the morning at six, the couple is already in the kitchen and prepares everything for the day. The first guests usually come half seven, although officially only seven o'clock is opened. The bistro operation runs until 14.30. There were phases in which Karla and René Schöne had to work almost eight hours without a break. But they are happy about the good response and like to do their work. A memorable event for the freshly baked gastronomics was the men's day. Actually, the innkeepers wanted to grill for hungry hikers from 10 am to 5 pm before their snack. But the demand was so great that half three were already sold out. “Some people have come to us several times,” says René Schöne. Now in the holidays fewer guests come. René Schöne has already learned from this. The next year is on holiday in summer. For the future, the couple already has some ideas. If the store runs well, they want to offer a record service and arrange smaller celebrations. Maybe there's a delivery service for the day business.
