Lake Raystown Resort Marina - Saxton

We camp here several times a year. it is beautiful and clean. some of the pages are a little tricky, but I would recommend shopping sites before booking because what can fit the page and what the website list cannot always agree.

After hearing about how beautiful this place was, we decided to book a trip. I must say, this was one week after the flood from hurricane Ida. The lake was flooded and lots of debris was floating. along with stuff that probably came from boats there such as coolers. That's not a knock on the location, I understand. The one thing that really disappointed me was the sites and bathhouses. The sites are really uneven and the bathhouses were sub-par. I get it, its camping but I like to feel like im clean after a shower. Nowhere to put your soaps and towel, ect.Otherwise the location really is beautiful and the people were all very nice. Maybe the staff were all busy dealing with the cleanup but there still leaves the site issue. I think if we go back we will try another campground. We would go back but would like to see other campgrounds though.

There is something for everyone here. You can camp..yurts, tents, cabin, or hook up your RV. You have a restaurant, marina, beach and even a lodge . Fun activities including a water park. It's a nice gem.

We arrived, paid for admission and walked to a chair. As soon as our bag hit the chair, the whistle was blown and everyone was told to get out of the water due “storms in the area.” We were forced to huddle under an overhang with everyone in the park. Cramming humans in an enclosed space during Covid was foolish. Ahh, but it was convenient for them as it was right where the snack bar is. They racked up a ton of sales. Coincidence? Not. We expected a 20-30 minute wait for safety. Instead we waited a long time with children in tow. There was zero communication from the staff. Lifeguards sat there engrossed in phones. No thunder/lightning. No rain. No storm, No updates. Asking for more information at the office was a no-no. They refused to disclose the last time that any storm element was in the area nor when normal operations would resume. Despite the ‘no refunds’ policy, one family was given vouchers for the next day, We were not offered this and when we inquired about passes, the office staff was incredibly rude. Summary: Waited 1 hour and 15 minutes on a sunny day for no apparent reason: It felt like a TOTAL SCAM. Perhaps it was a lack of lifeguards. Half of the park was already shut down when we arrived. This was our third visit over the years. We will never return. Save your time and your money. If you are looking for a fun time, skip this water park and drive to DelGrosso.

For 20+ years we’ve been camping with our now grown children and friends with their extended families. Camping here is kind of rustic unless you get a glamping premium site with its own deck, retaining wall with stairs but good luck reserving that! Our friends have nice RVs or Campers but we were always tent campers. It was all part of the experience! The last two years, we stayed in the lodge along with another family while the rest were in the campground. The lodge is also rustic but clean and comfortable. The Premium King rooms aren’t really nicer than the standard rooms, just one floor up with a better peek-a-boo marina view from the balcony. We don’t need 2 beds or a full table with chairs so we again opted for the Premium King room. All the rooms are affordably priced. The lodge has a playground for kids as well as some picnic tables, fire rings and charcoal grills. Deer, squirrels, chipmunks, hawks, owls and other wildlife in abundance throughout the resort. Last year, we got a transitory slip at the marina but what an AWFUL slip. It was just beyond the gas pumps and next to open slips for pull-in diners. It was a double slip, barely wide enough for our 27’ boat and a small runabout with only our bumpers to separate the dock boats constantly coming/going. After the second day, we just anchored it off the campground shoreline. This year we saved the $35/day but failed to share that info with our friends who ended up in the same exact slip with their 29’ Pilothouse. Note: you have to drive from lodge to marina or campground. The campground launch has a decent ramp and dock for in/out mooring. Much better than the steep marina ramp. My husband wades in/out to/from the stern of the anchored boat and picks/drops us and gear from the dock. The lake is 100% the draw here. Fishing, swimming, hiking, boating, kayaking. Pristine. Flat. We prefer the Raystown end rather than Seven Points. Closer lake access instead of very very steep hillsides to get to moored boats. Seven Points no longer allows you to feed the carp and there still is no way to walk from the community dock to the beach area without walking straight up/down hills and around. If you’re looking for a truly upscale vacation, go elsewhere. We also rent an Airbnb at Lake Anna in VA where homes are available along the shoreline. Raystown Lake has NO lakefront homes and less than a dozen with lake views. It is a different back-to-nature experience. Wi-fi (one device per Lodge Room) is spotty and slow. AT&T phones work better than Verizon. Download your flicks and books before you leave home.
