Le Siecle d'Or - Saumur

We ate here today, we arrived at 12:45 unfortunately most of the trays of food were empty or nearly empty we asked for them to be replenished and we were told to wait as more food was arriving, after 10 minutes the waitress bought one plate of beef onion and one plate of prawns in batter that was it !!!! We ordered some drinks when we arrived, unfortunately we had to ask twice before they were brought to our table. We complained to the staff in the restaurant who just kept saying sorry and laughing and one of the members of staff asked if it was our first time we had eaten there we said yes, and it will be the last time we will eat there she just grinned and handed us two hot towels which were freezing cold the customer service just went from bad to worse the longer we stayed in there. The waitress said the reason they had little choice of food was that they had been busy, we arrived only an hour after they had opened and at this time was they were not more than a third full and the restaurant does not close until 2.30PM. If you are operating your restaurant as a buffet, then you need to ensure that there is sufficient choice and quantity for the duration that you are open and not just for the first half of service. Needless to say we do not recommend this restaurant and would never eat here again. Overall not a good experience.

I have visited this restauarant several times since my last review and not much has changed. The restaurant and food are still fantastic and the food varied, tasty and fresh. Staff are always smiling and very fiendly. The best in Saumur.

Visited for a birthday celebration and had the set price buffet meal. Great choice of starters, mains and desserts. Don't miss the caramel pork! All the food was hot and very tasty. Staff pleasant and efficient. Offered complimentary Sake but that may be because we were a party of ten. I can recommend this restaurant.

Really delicious. There is a full menu but we opted for the buffet as did the majority of the other diners. There are hot starters, sushi dishes, mains and desserts, a good selection of each. I think this is the best of this cuisine I've had, and excellent value for money. The young lady who welcomed us didn't speak very much English (nor I much French! but she seemed to genuinely care that we got the very best from the experience, bringing us dressings we should have picked up ourselves, making sure we'd seen the ice cream cart, and insisting my husband try the saki on the house at the end of the meal. Don't be put off by the location in an industrial zone it was a superb end to our holiday and obviously very popular with the local people.
