Hands down the best Vietnamese place in town. The food is tasty and the ingredients are high-quality. The place is clean, cozy, and has nice music. Apparently they'll even be adding desserts to the menu soon.
The food is alright but it depends on what you order. Its probably one of the better places to get (Chinese) hot and sour soup. The pho has quite a bit of flavour but kind of heavy on the MSG. The vermicelli dishes are decent but the fish sauce needs a little more flavour to it. The deep fried wontons are filled with a thin slice of beef meatball...which is definitely the incorrect way of making wontons and not worth paying for.
Last Saturday night Jordon and I went to the Red Pepper in downtown Saskatoon. It was a quiet pre-Valentine’s Day supper and was a nice and quiet place to go. We ordered a sizzling seafood platter that featured mussels, lobster, and shrimp. We also split a beef and shrimp noodle bowl as well as a shrimp and coconut curry dish. The food was excellent and the service was fast. It wasn’t that busy but there was enough people in there that I was surprised at the speed. The food came out fresh and piping hot and was all on our plates within minutes.
The 'Jumbo Combo ' is my favorite noodle bowl in the city, particularly if value is considered at all. You can walk to the mall and pay 50% more for 50% less. Anything with pork in it, whether it 's the Jumbo Combo or the Pork Special, is delicious. The pork is seasoned in such a way that it has a very distinctive salty flavor, I now judge pork from any other Vietnamese restaurant by the standard set by Red Pepper in this regard. The Vietnamese rolls are a must try (luckily a Jumbo Combo comes with one), among the best in the city. The fish sauce is really sweet compared to other places, but a great treat in its own right, I really recommend just dumping it all over your food, particularly if you get Vermicelli, since it will give the Vermicelli a lot of much needed flavor. Pedestrian stuff like the Ginger Beef sizzling platter is really good too, they prepare it with fresh vegetables and ginger everything still has a crunch rather than being cooked into a limp soggy mess. I 'm less familiar with the curries and Thai side of their menu, but I haven 't always heard positive things, so you may want to head down the street to Royal Thai for that and stick to the amply sized Vietnamese Canadian portion of the menu. The business is family run and genuine, all of the servers are very polite and competent and I don 't have any complaints about the service. Like Thien 's, the physical dimensions of the restaurant are lacking, the entrance area is really bad if you arrive at a busy time or are waiting for a pick up order.
