Bidrage med feedbackI was here a few times, and sometimes it's up and other paints aren't so hot. this time I had filet steak and patatas fritas. fillet was disappointing- hard outside, although pretty delicate inside. not rich, there are better steaks elsewhere. in the city. (see my other reviews pasta was pretty good and we started with thunfish and salmon carpaccios that were both excellent.
Every town needs a pub and the pub on Universidad is San Telmo. Like many of the nice restaurants it has valet parking but since I live within walking distance I don't use it. The pub is built into the side of a hill so...when you see it from the street the windows are elevated above you and it looks quite small. Once you enter, you see that you have only seen the first floor and there are actually three. The third floor is open air and you can see a beautiful panorama of Querétaro from up there. There is a bar on every floor and the kitchen is somewhere, but that is not important. We started out with tequila and beer. The beer was a honey ale made in Mexico. I am always looking for the perfect sangrita to accompany the tequila and the sangrita at the San Telmo is some of the best around. For an appetizer we ordered chicken wings (Alitas de Pollo). They were spicy with a nice vinegar finish. For dinner we had a pizza with shrimp and bacon. The sauce was made with white wine, not the usual red sauce and the flavor was to die for. While we were eating dinner a storm was coming in. The staff asked us to move to another table for a minute while they enclosed the open air portion of the floor in a plastic structure. Once enclosed we returned to our table and finished our meal high and dry while the storm dumped rain outside. This is a great little place for an evening out.
The casual dining scene is in the uprise in Queretaro; very frequently we have new places and fresh options. San Telmo is originally from Celaya (neighbouring city with a well-earned reputation for for fantastic food and excellent restaurants). San Telmo's food is nothing you haven't...seen in Queretaro before; yet, the flavour, the quality of the ingredients and the attentive service, make it an excellent choice. One can go in with the absolute certainty that the food will be fresh, well prepared and there are so many drinks from which to choose, there's certainly something to meet your palate regardless of how picky you are. The steaks are superb; so are the empanadas not to mention the crocante salad and those perfectly crispy pizzas. Great wines and beers! The only downside: (a minor one, really) could use some extra ventilation in the middle floor.
The reason I would say average is because we were the first to arrive on a saturday afternoon at for lunch. San Telmo is located on Ave. Universidad, along the river which is easy to get to and parking on the street. It is...cool, hip, casual, bar/pub atmosphere. The beer selection is excellent, and I enjoyed a fruit beer from Belgium and my husband a different beer also from Belgium. The food is fine for lunch. I highly recommend for meeting with friends and enjoying different beers!!!!! The roof patio is good but small.
