Bidrage med feedbackThis is a nice small restaurant, with delicious food. We were eating pork pate (it was great and very tasty) and tradicional mix (different type of meat+fish, enough for two person). Recommend!
Disappointing experience at Cavalo Branco, with overpriced mediocre food. Considering it is only a few meters from the ocean, it was a surprise that the fish was not fresh at all. Definitely not recommended.
I hade been at this restaurant a couple of times in the past and it was nice. This time, I brought my parents and was very disappointed.First, the room was always cold but this time it was winter and it was very cold. The waiter even light up some sort of heater but no result. The cold was intense. Then the menu is quite small and even they don't have all the dishes there. The appetizers are the only thing I can still recommend. The main course was OK and fairly typical but I had a lot better elsewhere. They almost didn't had deserts available. The only waiter was good and friendly but It wasn't enough
As other reviewers have commented, this place is basic but the food is very good! My waiter was very friendly and attentive, which was very much welcome when you travel on your own.I had some type of pork scratchings (torresmos) which were delicious and also local black pudding with pineapple which was a pleasant surprise as it worked really well. Then I had breaded fried fish, which I recommend. I discovered that as opposed to what happens in mainland Portugal, where they master the grilling of fish over charcoal, the grilled fish in the Azores is generally not to those high standards, despite the freshness of the fish. If you are traveling in this part of the island, I would recommend to consider this place for lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed!!!
This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. Without hints or a good navigation system, one will not find it. So it is no wonder that almost all guests were habitants. Later, a bus with tourists arrived. They all were placed in the 2nd floor, so the atmosphere remained authentic. The interieur of the restaurant is as one can expect from a authentic restaurant. A more basic interieur, but with details like linen table cloth and napkins. The staff speaks a relatively good English and has good recommendations. We don't like (too much) meat, so the first recommendation (a dish with lots of different meat) was no option for us - but all the other guests had this (and it looked not too bad). We had the two fish specialities: several tiny fishes, fried in a special panade (all the other guests had this as add-on) and a filet of a huge white fish, fried and with a orange juice. This as well as the starter (a white fresh cheese) tasted very good. Together with some beverages, a good bottle of wine and Espresso, that all came for just about EUR 30 - an extremely low price for people from central Europe or the U.S. (remember: the price includes the service)! Comparable restaurants in Ponta Delgada will ask for at least 20-30% higher prices (and surely deliver no better service and less authenticy)! We will come again...
