My wife and I were first time visiting San Jose del Cabo and were looking for a place to grab dinner on her Birthday. I asked the host at Tropicana Inn (another perfect decision on our trip) for a couple recommendations for where to go for her birthday. He said "you need only one, El Huizache." My Spanish is pretty good so I was comfortable going to a relative unknown on the travel rating sites. Boy where we impressed. Easy to find, and modest inside but incredible culinary experience. They brought a bottle of wine as a gift for my wife, which was excellent and we enjoyed then and there. Our Chef and Waiter both spoke incredibly good English and enjoyed my Spanish as we played around with both languages; they were so enjoyable and fun to be around. But the real story was that we decided to trust the chef in preparing our meal and were absolutely blown away. What awaited was a 7 course trip through ancient, modern, and classic Mexican cooking, as well as fusion with a variety of other styles which totally altered our perception of both what Mexican cooking could be and the flexibility it had to be applied to other cooking cultures. I cant recommend El Huizache high enough. We came strangers and left family is absolutely a good description. Our stomachs were full, our minds expanded, and we couldnt have been happier with the recommendation. I wont say it was cheap, our meal cost us around 100$, but I also know we got so much more than we paid for. Our custom dining experience was incredible and made our trip. Im sure the chef could have coooked to a lower price if we had asked but we told him to go full steam into his passion and he delivered!

Was there on the evening of 28 Sept. 2015 and Restaurant was locked up with For Rent signs on it. This did not link like the season type closing but of the more out of business type closing.
This restaurant was completely unexpected. After getting a recommendation from the concierge at the Tropicana Inn (also highly recommended if looking for a hotel) we set out for El Huizache, slightly off the Main Street. Don't let the modest appearance deceive you! You are about to experience world class cuisine. Chef Lisandro, who not only prepared our meals but also acted as our waiter, explained that he was trained in Mexico City and El Huizache is his second restaurant. He recommended the tasting menu and we went along for the ride. While the meal was on the pricier side, every dish was spectacular. These were some of the most creative and delicious combinations of flavors I've ever experienced. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. I really can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
