Great sushi, amazing environment, slow service. The place has an amazing environment. Inside has a calming feel and the place looks like you were transported into a restaurant in Japan. The service was slow, there was only one man making everything. The food took at least half an hour to receive if not longer. Despite a one man show behind the sushi bar, the food was great. The fish was refreshing and the rice had amazing quality to it. The sauces were tasty and blended well with the fish and rice. Overall great food and atmosphere, but slow service.
The Sushi master's hair has grayed along with ours but the excellence of the food remains unchanged since we discovered this neighborhood gem years ago.Pro tip: order off the daily specials white board. There are always new dishes to try.Tonight my favorite was the dynamite scallop roll green bean tempura with scallions and avocado topped with exquisite scallop, thinly sliced jalapeños and chef's special sauce. Num. I wish I had room in my tummy for more.
I recently visited Sushi Kazu and I must say, I was extremely disappointed with my experience. The food was mediocre at best and definitely not worth the high prices they charged. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly slow and disorganized. It took a long time for our food to arrive. The staff seemed uninterested in providing good service, and didn't seem to care that we were unhappy with our experience.Overall, I would not recommend Sushi Kazu to anyone looking for good sushi or a pleasant dining experience. There are plenty of other sushi restaurants in the area that offer better quality food and service, so save your money and go somewhere else.
This is my go to sushi spot in the inner sunset. The interior is quaint and simple. There is only one sushi chef and one waitress. During popular hours (weekend dinners), if you show up at 7:30/8:00pm and there is an empty table that needs to be turned over/cleaned, she may kindly turn you away simply because they are busy and perpetually short on staff, which may sound like a bad thing, but I find it to be quite charming (feeling of a mom and pop restaurant). In terms of the sushi, the fish is super fresh. Rolls are more traditional and simple (not covered in an assortment of overwhelming sauces). My favorite rolls are the hamachi dragon, the spicy hamachi tataki, and negihama. The agedashi tofu is also delicious. It is lightly fried and does not taste like oil. The sauce is light and refreshing (pairs very nicely).
