Golden Horse - San Francisc

The food is great, and cheap if you order from the lunch special counter. BUT the place is filthy. The tables are all sticky with old food grime. The menus are gross to touch. Dried food on the underside of your plate. I'm not that picky generally, but this place left me not wanting to touch anything. If it wasn't for that, this place would've received 4.5 to 5 from me.

7/11/23 easy service. i always look at the menu beforehand and ready to order. i guess just know what you want to chow down. i got the beef steak with mango black pepper sauce. pretty hefty portion i like to say. and also egg rolls. these egg rolls were thicc bois, but its the veg so i dont know if the pork is the same. i think overall was enough for a hungry boi. expect big protions so dont go over overboard on yourself.

We ordered the roasted duck lunch option. It was served witch pak choi and rice as a side without any sauce. This was already a little bit disappoiting but not yet a problem. The bad part of the meal was the duck, which only consisted of bones and fat. There was barely any meat on it. We ate the rice and went somewhere else to get good food. Prices are decent but that's useless if the food sucks. Can't recommend going there at all.

This is an excellent and not very expensive Chinese restaurant on Nob Hill. I've had carry out from here half a dozen times in as many months. Every time I have been totally satisfied. I've had Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, Chow Mein, and my favorite by far is the roast duck. The duck has been the best roast duck I've had in years and it was just as good all three times that I ordered it. One time a friend and I ate in the restaurant and the service was good and the mostly empty restaurant made a relaxing setting for our meal.

Nothing really stood out. Average Chinese food at reasonable prices.
