Bidrage med feedbackI can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place before…. I can’t wait to go back. Double store front on a corner Strip Mall… one Block West of Production on Miramar Road. It looks like the real thing. It smells like the real thing… it is the real thing. Step in the front door and a smile lights up your face. Great country music… oil skin table clothes… wide screen TV… smiling employees… but the treat… the smell. They could charge me just to sit in here and sniff : 20 years in the same location… 20 years… same family ownership… and it shows. We got there about 11:00am on a friday morning… quiet and spotless… one hour later as we were leaving… people lined up to the door. Cast Iron smokers… Green Oak and Mesquite wood… 18 24 hours of slow cooking… and a vinegar based BBQ sauce that is the best I’ve tried in years. Please visit their web site [hidden link] to read their story… it will put a smile on your face and a lump in your throat. I was with a friend that has been coming here for years… and told me about the place as we left Marshall’s Hardware a block away. He warned me to order just a sandwich… as it was huge and sides were not necessary. He was right… it was huge… I even took some home… and it got raves there too. Cafeteria style … of course. Bottomless soft drinks… all the pickles and onions you want on the side… free… and at each table a zippy hot sauce… and absolutley wonderful BBQ sauce. You don’t have to order extra sauce on the side… you can have all you want. So pig out… but I went with Beef : Because of my Cowboy hat they asked me if I was from Texas… that’s not unusual… but the smiling courteous service was a joy. This place is fun… and the food is great. I can’t wait to go back to try some sides… and try their pork. Buy 9 Sandwich Platter Specials… and get one free Sandwich. I know I’ll be collecting on that one.
I was in Abbey’s last night for dinner with my friends. Three of us are Texans that recently moved out to California. As typical texans we have been on the hunt for some good BBQ and Abbey’s did it right. I got the biggest smile when I saw that they serve Shiner Bock (made in Shiner, Texas . I got an even bigger smile when i saw that they have a side bar that has sliced pickles, onions, and jalapenos. (I had gone to another BBQ place in Chula Vista and asked for pickles and Onions and they gave me fried onion rings and a pickle spear. If you know BBQ, and you know Texas BBQ you would be able to appreciate these touches. It reminded me of home. I read a couple of the reviews that said the “decor” was bad and I laughed when i read it. You californians need to get over yourselves and not be so snobby. Do you ever watch food network? The best places with the best food that they go to are “Diners, Dives, and Drive In’s” . I thought the “decor” was fitting and quaint. And Lastly, most important, the food. I had the Brisket and hot link platter. The Bark (look it up if you dont know what it means on the brisket was beautiful and so full of flavor. The sauce was good but i didnt even need it because of the flavor of the meat was tastier. The brisket fell apart when i put my fork in it. The Cole slaw was superior and the potato salad was tasty. I hope this helps those that are needing a deciding review. Take it from a Texan, a few texans, this place is damn good. We also noticed that the service was texas friendly and we were given so much food I had enough leftovers for lunch today. Thank you Abbey’s BBQ!!
