Bidrage med feedbackWe were here to celebrate our daughter’s college graduation, and the team at 1718 did not disappoint! We started things off with a few cocktails and the charcuterie board, which had some incredibly well done crustinis and a soft cheese that will have me ordering it again. Next most had the wedge salad which has an amazing homemade dressing and a perfectly prepared applewood bacon. My son ventured out and had the 1718 salad, and I think I caught him licking the plate. For our main, the lady of the day and her mother had the filet, which were almost two inches thick and cooked to perfection. My mother had the salmon over risotto and is still talking about it two days later. The balance of us had a ribeye or a NY strip, and I have to say that it far exceeded what I can do at home, and I am a fairly accomplished home chef. My ribeye was very well prepared and presented a rich, buttery flavor and a tender texture. The sides were a rich brown color and the top and bottom were charred darkly, but not black. The steak was an inch or more thick, and had some play to the middle but was still firm to the touch. To accompany our main we ordered a complement of sides: mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, and a few baked potatoes for the heathens in the group. The mashed potatoes were on point. The spinach was a kiss as it was much more cream with spinach as a garnish. I make a fantastic roasted Brussels sprout, and so did the chef, but his use of sugar was off putting. The asparagus was thin and light with a delicate crunch. The decor was quite nice and the atmosphere quite nice. Our waiter handled us generally without assistance and did a great job. A phenomenal restaurant to cap a wonderful day. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
I am writing this review in hopes that this place will take it to hear and get better. We were celebrating my daughter’s graduation and had a party of 11. When we arrived, the table was for a party of 10. No issue. Corrected right away. Our server started off great taking our drink orders and then appetizers. We put in our dinner order and that’s when things went south. Our food came out in sections at a time. First, the pasta orders and then the steak orders. Our server auctioned off our plates, saying “who’s got the Tuscan pasta? Who’s got the ribeye, medium rare?” For a high end restaurant, that is a no-no. The server should know who ordered what. We are his only table. My son’s salmon meal never arrived. They forgot about it. Rather than acknowledging it and saying they would take care of the meal, my son ate his dinner as everyone else was done. My mom asked for Tabasco sauce but didn’t get it for over 15 minutes. I’m also glad we looked at the bill because gratuity was already included in my almost $1K bill. For spending $100 per person, the service has to be top notch and the food has to be amazing. 1718 offered neither.
We had a lovely Mother's Day dinner at 1718. Our server, Brian, was kind, knowledgeable, and did an outstanding job. Our steaks were very good and the chef even came to our table to see if everything was to our liking.
Took the ladies in my family to 1718 for Mother's Day. The food was delicious and the ambiance was wonderful. The wait staff was friendly and courteous. I recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Food, drinks, and service simply amazing!!! Best steak in San Antonio. Already planning my next visit.
