La Regaline - Saint-Palais-sur-Mer

This restaurant is highly rated on Tripadvisor but we were disappointed. Our son has severe nut allergies (especially peanuts) and we mentioned this when we booked. When we arrived it was discussed again and decided he couldn’t have the chicken nuggets because there was a risk of traces in the coating. No problem, we placed our orders. The drinks arrived with a bowl of peanuts, oh dear. I explained that if the staff touched peanuts and touched anything my son would touch then we’d have a major problem. We’re kind of used to these things, but wouldn’t have booked if we’d known there’d be peanuts in the kitchen and on every table. The only good thing about coronavirus is the habit of washing hands constantly. The two glasses of wine we ordered were the smallest I’ve ever seen in France. Later I noticed other tables had much more in their glasses. I should have said something but we’d already drunk some so it would have been difficult. The staff were nice but the tables were too close together. I really don’t think there was a metre between myself and the lady on the next table. The food arrived and was ok, nothing special. To be honest, if all you can manage on a kids menu is a choice between chicken nuggets or cold sliced ham... We both had steak and it was average. Cooked correctly but flavourless and with more fatty sinew than I’d have liked. And the sauce, what was that? If you took a pepper sauce and watered it down until it was runny and tasteless, voila! Chips and some lettuce leaves. Can’t complain about the desserts, creme brûlée and ice cream, standard stuff. On the whole La Régaline was disappointing and what we’d expect from any average French café at lunchtime, not for an evening meal.

Excellent meal in this fantastic family owned small restaurant. Make sure you book in advance just in case. I had the foie gras terrine is to start as was the steak which I had for main. The homemade profiterole dessert is fantastic!

We really enjoyed the place. I had Foie gras starter with an entrecote main and it was lovely. My daughter had the matter de canard and again it was perfectly cooked. Service was excellent, attentive but not over the top and certainly not Parisian style of ignoring you. Overall a very pleasant experience

We had a great meal and experience here food was really good good quality and well cooked and the service was fantastic. Definitely recommend booking as it filled fast even at the end of the summer season!
