Bidrage med feedbackHere we were at Aubade, a super minimalistic coffee shop. The coffee barista was actually the owner, and he was super friendly and easy to chat with. The milk for the espressos were made with nut milk (and some other organic healthy stuff), just a warning that they don’t have other types of milk. Other than espressos, there were all the other types of coffees that you could possibly imagine, all done in a corner of a thrift shop! It was all very cozy, and I would go back again, next time I have time.
Eldric (the owner) knows his coffee, that's for sure! It was really nice getting to chat with someone so passionate about coffee and brewing. He was happy to share his thoughts and opinions on everything coffee related. The conversation only added to the coffee experience!
Aubade Coffee is not quite a pop up coffee shop, not quite a full cafe, but more like something in between. Located inside one of the most interesting venues I’ve ever seen, it’s stylish but relaxed, very coffee focused but not pretentious and has a highly skilled barista/owner but lacks the arrogant price tag of other high end shops. I have to say, it’s really rather excellent.
This morning, in the underbelly of Chinatown at Main and Pender, we crawl the streets. We’re looking for a coffee shop at 230 East Pender – Stop 40 in our weekly Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee. What ends up happening, we walk right past its restored heritage building. Backtrack, count down numbers. Tightly packed Asian groceries pass us like a shuffled stack of cards. If we’re a bit lost, that shouldn’t be a surprise. After all, Aubade Coffee, only days old now, is not your average Vancouver café. To find them, or more correctly, put them into proper context, we had some work to do.A little research on the web helps narrow down this mystery. In fact, if you Google their address, you’ll also come up with Space Lab. That’s an antique/vintage/restoration shop owned by a guy named Clint, which also shares this space with Aubade.
Absolutely the best coffee in the city. The only rival is Handiworks in Burnaby.
