Though we only stopped for a snack, we wished we had been hungry for a full Meal. The menu looked delicious. The service was welcoming and helpful. Clearly staff are proud of their establishment and have the right to be. We had the best pies, and hot chocolate there. Plus the location is beautiful.
January 03/01 Blues skies sided me all the way from Rodez to Aubrac village.. slowly the landscapes changed.. from city and shopping malls to hilly countryside where fewer and fewer houses where to be seen.. it got colder too but more, so much more beautiful! Snow appeared here and there over the sloppy fields and then i reached Aubrac.. 6 people in all were on the square centering the village, two of them were workmen shoveling snow to the side and removing dead branches from the trees. That day i saw about 10 people in the village : was told only about 3 to 5 live there all year round.. my kind of place.. Lucky enough though, Chez Germaine was open.. 3 generations of the same family owner, 3 women passing their know-how on to their daughter.. A nice fireplace, warmth in the house and tastes in the plate.. make sure to taste the forest fruits tart!
This is a really nice example of traditional French cuisine place to go to and have a nice lunch at. The service is friendly, the food is delicious and it's surely one of the best restaurants of the region.
A misty day walking on the Aubrac plateau and through the gloom we sought refuge in the comfortable cafe. A cup of coffee could not manage without a piece of delicious fruity tart. Tearing ourselves away to visit the fascinating local museum, we had to return to Chez Germaine for an overflowing salad bowl lunch. Tasty and good value, a welcome break.
