Bidrage med feedbackThis is THE BEST Ramen I have tried in San Diego. Tajima and Nishiki used to be my favorites, but after this, it's Menya Ultra all the way babyyyyyy ???? There is so much flavor in the base broth ???? When I go to other Ramen places I usually add fried garlic and chili paste to add more flavor to the broth, but this broth was just perfect, and so creamy! It didn't need anything extra. The noodles, oh my god, the texture is perfect and you can taste that they are freshlymade. There's no rubbery feel to them, and they're not hardened from sitting in the fridge forever and ever. Pictured is the Ajitama Shio Tonkotsu ???????? I added a tiny bit of chili just because I like spicy, but like I said flavor wiseit didn't need anything. Amazing. 11/10 will try again. Coming back for that Negi Miso, I'm excited to try that one! ????
What can I say that hasn't already been said? New favorite Ramen place. Good size portion, they don't skimp on anything. Even my kid who is a picky eater liked it. (He was going to bring the left overs but forgot it at the restaurant, ???? For appetizers, we got the edamame, like the description says, salty but good with a a glass of water. We algo got the fried gyoza, crispy but not dry! My husband and kid got the spicy one, level one and two. If you like to have somespice but still be able to enjoy it, level 2 is the way to go. I got the #7 Negi Miso Ramen ???? with a side of hard boiled egg. Mouthwatering! I'm the type of person that likes to enjoy the broth, but before I'm done with it I Added a bitof their table spicy sesame oil at the end, gave it some spice without compromising the flavor. Wait time was not to bad. We got there at 8:50pm got in the wait list, it said it would be a 30-40 min wait but got called around 9:09pm. Thestaff were nice and attentive. I do wish they were a little more open to talk about the menu, instead of just telling us to read it lol. But I get it, sometimes not their day. Overall, great place, definitely coming back again! Oh and theydefinitely follow through with wiping tables thoroughly.
A much hyped place. We waited for about two hours to get a table on a Sunday evening. The servers treated us well. We started with some shrimp gyoza and fried chicken. Both of them were too good. Three of us ordered three different ramens, mine was with fried pork cutlet on top. The broth was nice, and the pork cutlet was terrific. Overall the ramens were pretty decent, however nothing extra ordinary.
Pretty sure you can never go wrong at Menya Ultra (any of the locations). Decided to make sure, so got the Paiko Tantanmen and the Nagoya Karaage (amazing). What sets a great ramen spot apart from a decent/mediocre one is the noodles, and Menya Ultra makes their noodles daily. Huge difference in taste and texture versus some of the other shops.
Best bowl of ramen in SD. Very happy for them getting recognized by the Michelin guide as well. I usually go to the Kearny Mesa location but have been to the Hillcrest one twice now since opening. First time was during their grand opening and it didn't live up to my usual hype but decided to try again and it was as amazing as the other locations the second time. (Costco currently has a great gift card deal as well that I recommend if you know you'll go multiple times) Iordered the miso chashu ramen with extra noodles and an egg. Everything was perfect aside from wishing the broth was a touch more seasoned, although it grew on me as it got concentrated. I personally like more salt than most though soreally a personal issue that I could've solved by asking for salt/soy sauce or just ordering the shio instead but wanted to eat it how it was prepared! Girlfriend got the tantanmen sans the paiko although normally we do get it and it isAMAZING and unique for our area. Well balanced and different profile than your regular tonkotsu style ramen for sure. Star of the show is always the noodles, thin noodles that the broth clings to perfectly. Also ordered a large Sapporobeer. Comes with their correct serving glass as well! They have Societe Brewing, which their other location is across the street from, here as well which is also my favorite brewery in town, however it's hard to beat a Japanese lager withramen in my opinion. They also had a sake list with a diagram showing where each bottles flavor profile fit according the the quadrants. Helpful for people interested in sake without knowing the differences. Service was great and fast.Check what you want on the sheet you're given at seating, very unobtrusive during the meal. Sign up on the waitlist through Yelp! Although so far this location has been much easier to get into for us than the Kearny location has. Interiorhad cool, modern designs featuring skateboard decks with art on them. The interior is quite sma
