Bay Horse Pub - Rotherham

The food at the Bay Horse was really nice, but the evening was spoiled and we left as soon as we had finished eating. There was a mistake made on the food order, we ordered two meals both the same, the young man who took the order insisted that we had ordered something different, he didn't actually call us liars but hinted we were. He was very rude and made us feel unwelcome. Again, food great but spoiled by this obnoxious young lad, shame, as we would have definitely re-visited

Very friendly barman, who gave us a hisory of the building , on request. Very pleasant experience overall. Food, very nice, though chips could do with losing their skin. Amazing choc orange dessert.

Great home made food , especially the pies and cheesecakes . Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble . Lovely pub and a great atmosphere , highly recommended .

My partner and I had booked a meal at The Bay Horse Scholes after hearing so many good things from family and friends. We were really looking forward to going and invited another couple along with us. We booked for 6.45pm but were told we could have the table from 6.30pm. The carpark had plenty of spaces and the pub was welcoming on arrival. When we got to our table (we were waiting on a couple of friends) the waitress (really pleasant and friendly) said that she wanted to take our order first for food and drinks as they were expecting a table of 10 shortly and wanted to make sure our food was in first to avoid us waiting which was appreciated. Our friends arrived and we were then ready to place our order. We were then told that our table were not allowed to order any starters. We were told this was because the table of 10 had not 'pre booked ' their food when asked? I am not sure how this is our problem and we felt as though the table of 10 was being prioritised over ours. I have never been told that we cannot order a starter because of another party (and their incompetence) in my life. Really disappointed. To avoid causing a fuss in a busy pub, we went ahead and ordered a main. The food itself was really tasty. Dessert was beautiful (cheesecake) all made fresh. When we asked if we could order more drinks for the table, we were then told to get our own from the bar. Again, I have never experienced this in the middle of a meal. Overall, the food and pub itself was great. The service not so much so. Staff however were pleasant and I do appreciate that they will have been told to say to us that we can 't have starters and can 't order more drinks etc so this review is not a reflection of them. We wouldn 't return to the pub on this basis alone. We did however have a great night overall catching up with old friends and the atmosphere in the pub was great, so we didn 't let this spoil our evening. Those who recommended the pub couldn 't wait to ask us how we had got on at our first visit of the Bay Horse and were really shocked at our experience as they have had such good experiences in the past.

We had a beautiful lunch for my wife’s birthday great little pub lovely atmosphere will definitely be returning on a regular basis dog friendly too lived in the area all my life never tried this pub
