Mel's Diner - Rio Hondo

Kind of out of the beaten path to this place but was well worth the 10 minute drive off of 77 south; very western theme inside and a large dance floor; live band on Wednesday afternoon with a big crowd; we are a dance group from Sunshine RV Resort and enjoyed the afternoon dancing; we enjoyed a few drinks but didn't stick around to eat as we had made earlier plans for Brownsville; we'll be back on a regular basis next winter as we know the entertainment enjoyed our afternoon!!

Ordered a burger and fries and the fries were too soggy. The fries also had too much seasoning making them too salty.

Limited beer. No Lonestar, no Shiner, no Coors, but other than that, all's good.

It is such a disgrace when your husband is a Police officer in town and you have 2 of the waitresses fighting for him as if he was a single man. Ladies sorry to tell you but he is MARRIED and has been for 11 years now and with 3 beautiful kids. Only because a man in uniform is polite with you does not mean he wants something with you. Very unprofessional wait-staff! Get a reality check ladies !!

Friendly staff and the chicken fried steak was good. I was there on a Monday, so no live music, but I believe they have live music Thursday thru Saturday. I plan on returning again.
