Bidrage med feedbackI frequently eat Japanese food in the Greater Toronto Area almost every week. I have been driving to Akane Sushi for years, but I have noticed that the quality has declined. The sushi is not well presented, as they mainly serve salmon sushi with the occasional snapper. Isn't there a variety of fish available? Salmon is the cheapest option, which is not surprising. The rolls, salmon teriyaki, and other dishes are all overly salty and dry. The older waitress appears to be irritated with every customer. I do not recommend this place and will not be returning.
The food was good and so the prices were, but when I called to order the woman who was answered was rude and literally screaming. it was probably a 1 minute talk and she cried all the time. she asked when I would go to eat, and I said 30 min and she said no, 20 minutes, and when I asked her if she could repeat herself, she cried again and slowed her ton as if I were stupid and getting on her nerves. when I took it up, the dame was again quite rude and screaming, while she tried to understand a question I had about my order. some dinge differ from the online menu they have on their website from the takeout menu.
I've known the sushi chef since his previous restaurant in Scarborough on Kennedy Rd. He starts his day early sourcing the freshest fish for his dishes. The servings are generous and the prices are unbeatable. My wife and I only spent $40.00 for a delicious dinner for the two of us. The decor may be a bit outdated, but if you can overlook that, you're in for a fantastic Japanese meal.
Locals consider Akane to be a great spot for fresh sushi, sashimi, and rolls. The service is good and the food is delicious. We decided to order a large combination of sushi and rolls. They do not charge tax if you pay in cash. We ordered a 92-piece combo for $84 and picked it up the next day. Along with our combo, we received a pick-up box of japchae (glass noodles). They also provided us with plenty of white ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. However, we were disappointed to find that all of the rolls were California rolls, totaling 40 pieces. It would have been nice to have a variety of different rolls such as tuna, salmon, cucumber, and avocado. When ordering sushi, sashimi, and maki combos from here, be sure to specify your preferences to ensure you receive a variety of items like those shown in their menu.
Akane has been around for some time and it's a hidden gem in Richmond Hill. Tucked away near the corner of the plaza, it is a great quality Sushi restaurant with decent pricing. Obviously one can't compare this budget Sushi place to a high end...restaurant that gives you the option to order Sushi by the fish. But their fish is always fresh. Owned by Koreans, they give you an order of chap chae whether you dine in or take out. Their list of combos is endless. Lots of options for rolls, Sushi, sashimi, boxes, etc. Recently they've increased their prices a tad. This only shows how well they've been doing for the past several years. I've never been disappointed each time dine in or take out has both been fantastic. Will definitely go back whenever I have a sushi craving but don't want to splurge a ton of money on places like Inatei just down the street.
