Inside it is beautiful and call outside a bit more crowdy, le piccadilly has a great deal and the service is good. value for money, excellent dishes.
Sat with colleagues, but was disapointed with my meal, which was not better than what can be served in a canteen. when the waitress had finally brought our courts, the sauce on my teller was over the side, but instead of changing the plate, she just apologized and laughed at the chaos. the restaurant itself is very beautifully decorated and it is in a great location in the city center. I can only imagine that this unfortunate experience is up to the lack of good employees. fortunately, none of us had met since we waited very long for our dishes to be served.
Ok for a late dinner, due to a late arrival into Rennes, we booked for 10.15 which is quite late for France. Good food and service but not a top restaurant in Rennes.
We used to visit the Piccadilly regularly before its major refurbishment a few years ago and enjoyed its slightly old fashioned charm but this was the first time in its new, very much updated guise. First impressions were fairly positive: light and bright, the music...controled, the staff eager. Maybe the efforts of an interior designer were a bit too obvious. The menus offered a good range of options at all price levels. Nothing very startling, but a fair range of dishes that tempted. Entrees were promising. My crab millefeuille was good, the crab tasty, the galletes a nice touch, the beetroot coulis fine. My wife’s croustillant of prawns was very striking; on tasting, however, the prawns had been over cooked. My filet of beef was excellent, cooked just right, but its subtle sauce was slightly overwhelmed by the curried carrot that accompanied it. My wife’s dorade was good. The carrot without the curry was a wiser accompaniment. Around us, lots of people were leaving the curried version... Desserts were poor, though. The souffle wasn’t a souffle. a toasted marshmallow. It was also cold on the inside. Very poor for a French restaurant. Wines were okay, but the choice was limited. Far too much Bordeaux to the exclusion of other options. Staff remained eager but didn’t cope well with my unhappiness with the souffle. I had to argue to get a reduction on the bill. For what we had, this was a pricey meal, but we did choose the more expensive options. Maybe, in retrospect, there was better value to be had. And on balance maybe I preferred the old Picca.
