1843 X Calico Eatery - Reading

I went to Calico for the wine cheese event that they run yesterday (25th July 2023) and it was honestly amazing. We had a meat cheese board, there was so much food which was incredible. We got three wines one white, rose red. The wine was so delicious. We were advised which wine pairs with each bit off food. It was so great. Looking forward to going again and can’t stop recommending it.

I first visited the venue for a bottomless brunch on a Saturday afternoon and was extremely impressed by the food served and drinks provided definitely the best in Reading. The waiting staff were also incredible: Sam, Liana, Emma, Samaia and James are a credit to the business. They were welcoming, efficient and friendly. However, we were disappointed in the professionalism of the supervisory staff. Upon speaking to Ashley, the assistant manager, we were assured this would be addressed which meant we would definitely visit again and recommend to others.

Calico Bar and Restaurant Fantastic! The food menu is a blend of Indian food/flavours and other dishes from around the world and with the traditional burger/pizza menus too. For me personally the food was stunning. The Chat I ordered from the small plates menu was the best I have had in a long while. All my friends also agreed the food was great. The cocktails we had were also stunning and well made and not the usual cheap sugary cocktails you can find elsewhere. We had great, attentive and friendly service too. Although just to note they don't take cash as payment. I know these days people don't tend to carry cash on them but I did that evening. Didn't stay in the hotel.

I came here with friends for lunch and the food was amazing, Lianna, our waitress, was incredibly accommodating. One thing I have to critique is the bar staff. One of the bartenders did not take well to me saying there was something wrong with my drink, and rolled her eyes. The rest of the bar team did not pull her up on this and I felt quite judged when I went up to the bar to order further drinks.

Just visited the Calico Bar Restaurant here. Great choice of cocktails and good selection of Indian and English food. With good fast service. Being an Indian, the Mixed grill is very very mediocre unfortunately. Upon arriving into the building and inside the restaurant, seems to be fruit flies just hovering around, which was quite off putting. I came on fathers day and was told my first drink was on the house, but then to find it still on the bill at the end. Toilets were very clean, which is always a big plus for me.
