Bidrage med feedbackA pleasant discovery! I visited Rascafría one Sunday and decided to stop for coffee and something sweet at La Flaca before returning to Madrid. It was a welcoming place and very pleasant. The staff was attentive and jovial. The service is very punctual. This small, local coffee/tea shop has a lovely view of the Loyoza valley and its surrounding mountains. The carte has a large selection of pastries and desserts. I ordered a chocolate torte. What a delight! The generous slices (two slices) made with rich chocolate and accompanied with splendid whipped cream were outstanding. My coffee was equally superb. And the terrace was spectacular. Small town, wonderful mountains, superb tranquility. I plan on returning to sample its other desserts.
After a 15 km’s hike we were delighted to encounter this place in Rascafría. We felt like having a cafe con leche with a good piece of pie. The menu offered different kinds of pie, even with whole-wheat flour. It took a while before the waitress probably the owner as we read here on TripAdvisor; a woman with short blond hair) took our order but it took a whole lot more time before we finally got it. Not very common in Spain where waiting on tables or bar tending is still a profession unlike in Holland where we come from). We thought the owner couldn’t get enough personnel because of the special holiday long weekend for Madrileños) but reading the comments here on TripAdvisor learn otherwise: waiting for everything is common here: for a table, for having your order taken, for the food, for paying the check. Finally the coffee and pies arrived. The waitress almost threw the pies on the table and would have done the same with the coffee if it would’ve been possible. The cheesecake with red fruit was OK, the apple pie was nice but too sweet. As I already noticed everything took forever here. We didn’t want to wait any longer so I went to the counter to pay the check. In my best Spanish I waited until she finished making coffee and asked here if I could pay. She didn’t say anything and aggressively grabbed the €10 bill from my hand! I couldn’t believe it. What a rude and aggressive gesture. I was so stunned by it that I gave her the lacking money because it was a bit more than 10 euros €0,40) but I should have walked away very very fast. This woman has a big problem with herself. You really don’t understand why she works in the hospitality business and that her place still attracts people. But that’s the fate of tourist places: people only visit once. So why should you bother to respect and treat them in a nice way? This seems the credo of this owner. It’s a shame...
I visited La Flaca in August several times during my stay in Rascafría. The shop specializes in ice cream, desserts, coffee, teas, and other beverages. Many of the cakes and cookies are made in store, and the freshness is evident. I tried a cheesecake with raspberry glaze, and it was splendid. One morning I stopped for coffee and muffins (magdalenas in Spanish) before I headed out for a walk in the surrounding area. The outdoor seating is comfortable, a place to chill out and write some postcards in the afternoon. On another day, I tried their empanadas with some limonada. The empanada was freshly made, with flaky crust and tasty filling. The lemonade was superb and refreshing. Definitely a place to visit if you want some coffee and desserts. I would recommend it.
