Bidrage med feedbackThe food during the afternoon tea is absolutely horrible. If you have dietary restrictions, they are able to accommodate, but the gluten free options are honestly not even edible. The service is poor, and the quality and quantity for the price is absolutely not worth it. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
Tuna ceviche was cut unevenly, big chunks with subpar crackers to go with it. Not as good as it could have been, or should have been. Fillet was undercooked on the border of raw and not tender with too much fat for that type of cut of meat. We were given the wrong drinks, service was extremely slow, but friendly. Bread came after we had appetizers and salad, and the butter was rock-hard, making it unspreadable Food was very underwhelming and disappointing. A $400 meal should've been phenomenal not low-grade as this was. We will not ever go back.
The dining room is lovely. I know there weren't a lot of wait staff which made the service a bit slow but now too bad. It was noisy as there was a wedding and then it got quite cool when the wedding party went into their room. They must have turned the heat down to accommodate the large wedding. I would prefer not to go when there is a wedding if I go again.
Wow they really raised the prices for holiday high tea and they add a mandatory 20% tip. The total for the 2 of us was $191. The food was good but felt like it was sitting out for a while, so not great. It was so loud we could barely talk and it was just 2 of us. The waiter did not tell us all of the desserts or the jams and toppings. The tea selection felt somewhat limited to, but it was good. If I am going to spend this much, I'll go the city for the full experience with a nicer atmosphere. This was the first time I ever took my mom for a high tea and she says it's her last. I'd like to also note this was my third year in a row going to the Drake in Oak book for Holiday high tea.
Reservations included one vegan and two vegetarians. Website stated the chef accommodated all diets. I mentioned our diets in the space for special requests. The week before our High Tea reservation date, I called the restaurant, spoke to a woman and she confirmed the chef has a printout of all requests and will have specific menu for our diets. We arrived, were seated, and the wait staff were not aware of any special requests. I told them I was assured the chef had our requests. It turns out, there were no vegan accommodations. They had no idea was a vegan diet entails, and just removed the meat/fish sandwiches. After we explained a vegan diet, they returned with sandwiches of raw vegetables on a bun. They also brought hummus/cucumber sandwiches, but the scones, cakes, desserts all had milk/egg/cheese. I give the wait staff a lot of credit to bring out some fruit and sorbet for a makeshift dessert. Certainly not what we expected from a High Tea service. Needless to say, the Drake should not advertise they accommodate special diets, and it's deceiving to confirm over the phone that the chef will have a Tea service for vegans. I have positive ratings for the wait staff, but am very disappointed in the food we were given for the prices they charged.
