Auberge de Perol - Prondines

This Auberge is run in the main for the local workmen, sometimes very difficult to get a booking due to it's size, it has covers for around 20 persons, seating outside is available in the Summer and they allow well behaved animals to sit with you at the Table.Cussine is simple consisting of an offered set menu of a starter, usually Pata or a simple salad, followed by the meal of the day, followed by a dessert and coffee, is served with a choice of Complimentary House Red or House White Wine and they do this all for 14euro per person, what a bargain!Downside is you need to be prepared to eat what's on offer or move on the A La Carte which will double or blow your budget, costing you more like 60euro for 2 persons including an 18euro bottle of wine and coffeeWe that is my wife and I, had a wonderful Steak the other day from the A La Carte, one you could actually eat as I do find most French Steaks are not good! we had that served with a starter, desert, coffee and a bottle of 20euro wine and it came to 72euro's - not the cheapest of lunches but it was a nice treat.This is one of those little Gems that could take you a lifetime to find, luck on our side we had Friends who live nearby who introduced us.Do not roll up, book in advance, write down and just repeat this over the telephone, it works for us -Bonjour, je suis anglais et mon français n'est pas bon.Hello, I am English and my French is not goodBonn shur, shur swee en glay ehh mon fronsay neh pa bonn Je voudrais réserver une table pour 2 personnes ce lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi et vendredi, est-ce possible?I would like a Table for 2 persones this Monday, Tuesday, Wed,Thur,Friday is this possible?Shur voodray reservay unn tabble pour doux personn seh lundie, mardee, merkcredi,joodee eh vondredee, ehh seh possebleHopefully She will anwser Yes [wee] and you are good to go, just give her this response = Mercee, ma fameerh nom ehh James, merceeIf not available she will say No or Neh Pah Possible or Desole [sounds like Desolay]Go on give it a your best shot, ring up and practice your French or Feeling lucky, just pop your head around the Corner at bang on Noon with your hand behind your back and your fingers crossed.All French translations are my own, so apologies to all you Francophile s just dying to correct it, I know I would :(EnjoyKeith Spence here in the Auvergne Central France

Love the place, not that large and struggles to seat 20 persons with even the Bar filling up lunchtimes with workers looking to fill up.At 14euro a head including wine, you get a starter,main,cheese board,desert and I am not sure if the coffee is also included.We go once a month and I have to say that the Owners are always there to welcome everyone into their restaurant.They have special weekend and evening meals, where you can feast on frogs legs until your hearts content, if you have such a desire.Do not arrive after 12 noon if you want a seat and even then be prepared to dine at the Bar if the Pompiers (firemen) are there on mass having their outing.This is a local gem for those who can find it out here in the Puy de dome Auvergne.Keith Spence ApartmentsWales

After a week in Perigord for daughter Avery's opera program, our family of three was taking the "less traveled road" eastward to Gstaad. Having found nowhere to eat dinner in Giat, we were fortunate to stumble across this tiny and wonderful establishment. It was Friday and they were serving a reservations-only menu fixe, and though they were sold out of the night's menu, they welcomed us warmly, serving us the best sandwiches of our vacation! Next time in France we will certainly visit this petite auberge to sample their finer culinary treats!
