So glad I just got this on the road! so many great walks over the moore, and a lot of history to learn. I love to find the old ruins and stone circles, to see the ponys and make photos. sunweather is ideal, but it is much better when the fog rolls!

A beautiful, natural and historic area with great views, walks, wild animals and landmarks. It can get windy and cold up here, but the fresh air is lovely

If you love the great outdoors, this is the place for you... There is so much to explore on the Moors that it would take a lifetime. Which is what we plan to do as a family for many moons to come. If you take that leap of faith you can find a trail, find a stream, find an old abandoned mill, find a railway, find a quarry and much much more. The wildlife alone is worth visiting, try and take some carrots to feed the Dartmoor ponies that live there, but be careful... They are for the most part wild! There's sheep, deer, fish and in summer all fantastical types of butterflies. If you haven't already, get your backpack and your boots on and get out there and enjoy it.

You must go. Never been before? There's lots of easy access to beautiful views you don't even have to leave your car before you're greeted by wild ponies. Been a few times but unsure? There's a wide range of walks and activities with forests, rivers, lakes, tors, valleys, pubs, clapper bridges. In the summer you can have a swim in the wild rivers, with the popular spots being close to the car and the less so spots being a short walk. You can scramble and climb on the famous Dartmoor rocks, camp under the stars (make sure to check the laws and areas you can camp on first! , and there's so many free places to park that you only have to walk a bit more from. The beauty alone is worth going. Seriously, you have so many possibilities with such a grand empty space, there's no reason not to.
