The Old Barn - Powys

We were drawn to the "all day dining" concept at this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm, knowing that many pubs/restaurants are closed on Sunday evenings. The toilets were clean and the staff was welcoming and attentive. The owner even checked if they had bitter lemon in stock instead of just saying no. The starters were lovely, particularly the goat cheese beetroot which was not overly vinegary, with a sweet and soft flavor. The trout was also delicious. The main course was well-prepared, though the black pudding was a bit tough for my liking. The service was prompt and efficient. I would give it 4 stars, deducting for the lack of attention to detail at times and the disappointing desserts. I left half of my dessert as the banana portion was too small and there was an overwhelming amount of sickly toffee sauce.

The restaurant building was appealing from the outside, but inside it felt like a typical chain pub. The menu consisted of basic pub food. Our large group made it difficult to hear and most of the dishes were standard deep-fried fare. A mistake was made with one of our orders and we were informed that it would take too long to correct, so we had to settle for what we had. The beer was decent, prices were average, and the service was satisfactory.

This restaurant is very familiar to us and we have visited many times before. Last night's meal was top-notch, the service was excellent, and the staff did everything they could to assist us. Despite being seated near some loud tables with children and adults, we were offered to move to another spot, which we declined. The atmosphere was very cozy and charming. The highlight of the meal was the delicious mixed grill that my husband ordered and the cod that I had was also excellent.

I and my man and the rest of our family came to an evening meal that was nice, but the service was amazing. we had a nice waitress who could have been a comic, she was hysterical and she made our night. the other staff. was also brilliant, many thanks for the fantastic evening!

Sat in the pleasant outdoor area next to the stream. Brilliant food and great service. Spoilt for choice with extensive menu as well. Would definitely recommend.
