Gami Gedara - Polonnaruwa

This small, open, family-run restaurant is located in a rural district, at the end of a narrow Scottish road, right next to a rice paddy. according to the personals were the rice and most sweet at home and organic, with all the other ingredients bought before place. eating is served on lotus leaves, so waste is minimal. when I left, there were about 20 pieces in the buffet and only 1 contained meat. during my stay in sri lanka I went to similar buffets, but I thought this was the best. Our driver took us here and it's such a gem! We loved the food and the surrounds were beautiful. Love supporting these local businesses who put so much love and effort into it.

We stopped here with our driver enjoyed the most amazing, tasty traditional Sri Lankan lunch. It’s right off the beaten track, overlooking the paddy fields, very tranquil and lots of variety of dishes. You serve yourself in a banana leaf you can go...up as many times as you like. So tasty all the dishes are explained as to what they are, we tried everything, it was all delicious. We saw the rice being prepared from harvesting had a go at grinding it with a pestle mortar. Enjoyed fresh fruit curd coconut honey for dessert. We had beers soft drinks. Very reasonably priced super friendly service, such a warm welcome. A MUST if you are in the area can stop for the most tasty home cooked food.

Beautiful food, prepared and served in the traditional Sri Lankan way. Very friendly staff and a tranquil location. Well worth the effort to visit.
