Bidrage med feedbackWe had “Verdines con pantruque” a local green bean variety cooked with chorizo, black pudding and bacon, they were good. We also ordered “Tortos” a fried cornbread slice. They were a bit oily but tasty. A piece of Cabrales cheese too. Second dish “Cabrito asado” or roasted goat. Average, not great not bad, but the french fries were too many for the little goat pieces and were bland, too soft and a bit oily. Price was not expensive but was not cheap... Average as well. It was funny that at the restaurant front was a sheep called “Bibi” or “Pipi” acting like a friendly dog and it even came once inside the restaurant. We all laughed. For dessert we had ice cream from a Llanes small company. The waiter who I presume was the owner’s son was very nice and correct.
During the hottest week in EU memory, including northern Spain, we ended up in Mestas de Ardisana for a night (at the Hotel Benzua, which evidently used to serve food but does no longer, so I 'm told . The proprietor at the Hotel suggested the Casa xico, so there we went. Now, keep in mind, it was 40-42 degrees C., which is nearing 100° F., so it was a less than climate-controlled experience. The food, however, was a fine accompaniment to wine, and verdinas, and a variety of sausages and morcilla, and the somewhat peculiar (let 's just say original cooking of Asturias and this corner of northern Spain: corn-based, rather than wheat or rice. And, for all that, delicious. My wife 's Spanish isn 't quite up to mine, so she left for a walk back to the hotel and a nap (less than a half-mile away , and I hung out talking to the other lunch customers, who were remarkable, even for a summer lunch outside in rural Spain. The entire afternoon was to be cherished.
