Balkan Bakery - Phoenix

The Balkan cuisine at this restaurant is absolutely delicious. Every dish is authentic and full of fresh, flavorful ingredients, just like you would find in the Balkans.

The lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and even shared the interesting story of how the Figaro treat got its name from the opera. In the past, during long opera intermissions, these sugary treats were sold to help keep the audience awake for the second half of the show. We couldn't resist and ended up purchasing one of each dessert, a savory item, and a small drink (mainly because the bottle was so cool). I can't recall the name of the hot savory item we ordered, but who can resist pastry and cheese? To our surprise, all of this only came to $29. While Balkan Bakery is located 22 miles away from our home, making it a bit of a journey, we are already planning our return visit to try more of their delicious baked breads.
