Bidrage med feedbackMy other half and I visited after watching a ballet performance at the nearby Mikhailovsky Theatre. We were the only diners in the entire restaurant, which was quite odd. Our waiter was friendly but a little useless. He was either extremely forgetful or just uninterested. Our food was good. We also appreciated the complimentary pumpkin soup which was poured from a teapot. The decor of the restaurant was very elegant but our dining experience was very strange!
Fine dining restaurant with a fine chef and inventive classic Russian cuisine located at the highly cultured place, former Nobility House, the centre of the cultural life in St Petersburg, and currently the main stage of the famous Academic Philharmonic of St Petersburg. The decor of the restaurant is an array of historic photographs and documents portraying the rich musical history of the place. Two big plasma TV screens are showing the concerts in the main hall of the Philharmonic live. The food is very tasty, the drinks are of a high quality. The decor is complimented by a rare candelabras. The atmosphere is romantic, celebrative, special and memorable.
Wow, a pleasant surprise. Quite elegant (some will say stuffy), comfortable, and more than acceptable service. I had the beef stroganoff and was duly impressed with the taste. Size wise a little stingy but quality really good and price inexpensive. Others had white fish and were similarly impress. Several wines available as a glass size and again affordable. Overall very positive experience, would certain recommend.
Strategically positioned to attract sophisticated theatre crowd. Fancy appearance with little substance. Service was too sweet but inefficient. Looks like waiting stuff was taught to speak with super sweet charm , very fake. Food was ok+ with a lot of pretense on the menu, but lacking expected taste. We were there for lunch and I guess paid for location. I would not waste time for your taste buds, but only for the false feeling of upscale.
While traveling with a local tour group, I was brought into this restaurant as one that served great original Russian food. Well, after being in Russia and sampling many fine restaurants, my hosts got it wrong! The atmosphere was lacking the chandeliers were set to HIGH and honestly so bright you could get a tan! This was no ambiance to serve dinner with. The staff was disinterested, as I found throughout Russia the people are either VERY into being service oriented, or could care less. No in between great or horrible. This place had horrible service. Immediately upon sitting down, while our other tables were just having guests arriving, an appetizer was served! Instantly! This was to set the pace for a FAST in and out meal that was more than disappointing. The prefixe menu had a good appetizer of an authentic salad that had chicken and vegetables and was nicely done. Then it went downhill with a sandwich bread with sliced liver on it! Yuck. Then a small serving of pork medallion which was decent but bland. We had over two dozen travel agents sampling the venue the wait service was terrible and the management actually REFUSED one of our group leaders to open a special bottle of champagne he brought in to toast his wife's birthday...EVEN AFTER he agreed to pay a cork fee!! This was one of the low moments on my Russian trip a waste of time and a meal that would have been better served at almost any other nearby establishment. Being rushed out of an EMPTY restaurant at 7pm on a weeknight was unacceptable and the terrible and non caring attitude of the entire staff made us all feel very unwelcome and I am sure NONE of us would add this place to our itineraries for our clients. Their loss but they honestly could case less, as they knew we were coming and why. Go figure!
