Though I was informed that Phong Vinh has changed owners, I thought I would still like to give it a try. There were only one table being served and we were the other. Service was rather poor - didn't recognise any of the staff though I was informed that they still kept the old staff. My daughter and I ordered our norm, i.e. raw beef and beef ball hofan and vermicelli. We decided that we will not order the rice paper rolls till we have tried the pho. The mint leaves and lemons served to us were rather a small portion. I requested for more lemons but the waitress just gave us two extra pieces. They used to be very generous with their lemons - all cut in wedges but now, have the wedge and only gave us 2 which is only 1 wedge realistically. Service was slow. When the pho was served, the look of the pho was not appetizing already and I would rate it as 'edible' but nothing great at all. Huge parts of the raw beef were still raw eventhough it was dipped in the hot soup ... the soup just wasn't tasty as I could still taste the 'raw taste' in the soup! Nope, I'm not patronising this restaurant again unless the old owners are back ... sad.
My family and myself used to eat here about once a week on average over the last 5 years, it was our favourite place for many reasons, great food, choice, value and service. The staff knew what we wanted we were so regular. Sad news. New owners. The menu has changed, food is poor, so disappointed and so too are many of our friends who used to frequent there. We will not be back.
We have been at Phong Vinh twice and always satisfied! There are many different choice of vermicelli, rice and egg noodles dry/soup/stir fried all in very big portions! They also have a self serving wrap so u can make your own rice paper rolls! The tea is served as soon as you seat and is very good! Don't miss it if you are in Perth!!!
Phong Vinh, a Vietnamese restaurant along William Street should not be missed for its pho. The raw beef and tripe pho is amazingly good. Tripe is crispy and the stomach was cooked to the right tenderness. My daughter usually takes raw beef and beef ball hofan and she insists that her pho is still the better one! I have tried having it with egg noodles (thick like the fettucine) and it tastes really good too!The fried spring rolls are not as good in this restaurant as compared to others but their fresh spring rolls are good. Broken rice is also tasty here.Waitresses here are efficient and after a few visits, they know exactly what we want and can actually take our order without having to prompt them again. Remarkable!I've tried pho in Hanoi and I still think that Phong Vinh serves the better pho! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like to have good pho and casual dining .. it's a very small restaurant and I would actually rate it as cafe. I usually book the table in advance if I'm going there in a group larger than 4.
