Bidrage med feedbackWe ate here one evening when we were not up for a big dinner after another enormous Spanish lunch. The tapas was first class, particularly the croquetas. There was good wine and beer. The owner was friendly and enthusiastic. The prices couldn’t be beat.
Went twice, once for wine and tapas, once for chocolate and churros. Tortilla Espanol was excellent, as was the wine. Only place around for breakfast, and very nice outdoor patio to enjoy this traditional breakfast offering.
We couldn 't face another big lunch and stopped in at Nuevo Senda just by accident. Fernando the owner had a good selection of delicious tapas which we enjoyed with a local beer. The place is a typical Spanish bar which in general offers better food than an American bar. Peñafiel had celebrated San Fermin the weekend before and Fernando explained to us that the bull ring was set up in the main square. Homes on the square were sold with or with out vistas i.e. the right to look at the windows during San Fermin and other festivals. People who bought without vistas basically had to leave their house for the festival while the owner of the vistas sold them to people to watch the bull fights. During this festival there are at least two bull fights a day and sometimes three. In addition to the torreador, there are recortes where guys jump over the bulls like the ancient Cretans and another type which is men on horseback against a bull. Many Spaniards I spoke with preferred the horsemanship of the latter. As we chatted Fernando even treated us to a glass of Protos Verdejo. Like a lot of small places in not so major cities, there is not a lot of English spoken. We always found the locals willing to try to understand and help us out.
