Bidrage med feedbackIf they are vegan, they really have an option: red bean filling. it is cheap and tasty, however, and with the plastered cabbage and salsa it makes a decent meal with 2-3 pupusas. at the time of our visit it was 12q each.
I've eaten there forever. the half of the pupusa is vegetarian. two and a beer is a great dinner. Note that chero is friend in el salvador, so it is friend’s bar (the owner is called ricardo, although people think that his name is chero.
Pupusas are excellent for filling, inexpensive meals. there are other pupusarías in panajachel, why chero’s? few pupusarías make vegan pupusas-they mix cheese with the sweets and that is that. chero has no problem making pupusas without cheese. there are several fillings to choose, including black bean, spinach and mushrooms. they get a lot of food for the price. pupusas come with curtido, tomato sauce and spicy pickled vegetables. a pupusa with three fillings costs q11, or about $1.50 us. two pupusas make a full meal. the ambiente leaves something to be desired. the room is often hot (not much airflow,) and it is past a busy corner with noisy busses.
While there is only one vegan option, it is absolutely NEXT LEVEL!!!! The homemade hot sauce picante pickled veggies really take the meal up a notch. I like to try lots of different places when I travel and normally I prefer to eat at spots where there are more options, but I will certainly be back to enjoy more frijole rojo pupusas before leaving Panajachel. Don’t be discouraged by there only being one option for us veganos it is a DELISH meal! As a side note, be sure to specify that you want your pupusa SIN QUESO!
